The Lynxx works pretty well for the price. But don't fill the oil tank to the top like you do on a saw and then store it upright. I did that and mine leaked oil all over the unit. It's taken some effort to get the oil out of the sliding mechanism so it'll stay in place. There's a max line on the oil tank sight window and I ignored it. I fill it halfway up the window now.

They just came out with a chain saw.

I saw that chain saw. I might grab that as well. I'm buying a commercial Stihl this spring in a 4hp/10lb class, so the Lynnx would be a neat little saw to toss in my Rhino for trimming back trail limb growth when I don't need a serious saw. I wouldn't use it for firewood work, but if it works like the pole saw it would be really great for once or twice a year use in pushing growth back.

I been thinking about something similar to Rock Crawler. Would be really nice to have a battery powered chain saw for in my SxS for that tree across the trail or even just a limb that falls in the yard that needs cut. Sometimes it would a lot easier than getting the Stihl out for one quick cut. Even just trimming up a few limbs before hunting season they sure would be nice!

If you have ever had a gas pole saw you will be disappointed with the power in a battery saw. It will do the job but very very slowly. Smaller branches have a tendency to clog around the sprocket. No matter where you place the shoulder strap within the recommended range with the pole in the maximum extended position the saw has no balance. Sore arms and shoulders in a few minutes. Also the strap on mine broke in less than a week. The one good thing is the battery lasts a long time with a full charge and recharges quickly. Spend a few extra bucks and get a gas powered saw. You will cut you time by two thirds.

Last year I bought an el cheapo Poulan Pro pole saw at Tractor Supply on sale for around $170. I've run over 10 tanks through it and so far so good. I know a lot of people "diss" on anything that is not "professional grade" but I am not a professional tree trimmer and don't need to spend the extra $$$ for one. No more than I will use it I figured it was a better option than the electric battery powered ones.

So far the Lynxx electric pole pruner has been pretty good for my relatively infrequent use. If I used the pole pruner as much as I use my saws I'd probably want a gas one. For various reasons there's lots of chainsaw work here but not so much pole pruning. I don't use the strap. I haven't had anything clog the sprocket. Having the electric motor out at the saw end does make it heavier than a pro gas pruner with the engine at the handle end but with my usage it's not been a problem.

I asked my cohort about discount power tools like Poulan. I asked him since he'd been through small engine school and certified at this or that. He said they had extensively discussed them in the school and worked on some low dollar engines. He said they found that there manufacturing strands are so low, you never knew if one would well run well or not, or for long. He advised staying away from them. YRMV

To revive this thread. We were out clearing trail this weekend which we do more than 750 hours per summer. I only mention this to give folks and idea, how much these tools get used. On this section, no one had touched in years and quite a mess, as seen in the photos. Its about 1.5 mile hike in just to get started, so we can not bring every tool in the shed with us. Weigh is a premium when you must hike in. This day we brought with us 2 power units, two string heads and one saw head plus other accessories for this type of work. The string heads hold pre-cut .155 strings. What's not seen is all the overhead branches cut with a pole saw. Hope that helps.
