I like the nice big overhang on the gable end, keeps the rain off the siding. Did you hold down the last rafter and put the lookouts across it, or are they nailed to the face of the last rafter?

The Lookouts are resting across 2 rafters that are sistered up, i call these shoulder rafters, the top of these 2 sits level withthe bottom of all the others. The shoulder rafters (4 on each end of the barn) also sandwich the 3 6x6 posts that also make up the droor way and center post. Should be pretty strong. All Rafters are 2x8

All being well, my roofing metal will be here this weekend from the Amish guy downthe road. Be nice to get the roof closed in.

I also ordrered my siding. 1x12 pine boards and 1x2 battons from another local Amish fellow. Pick that up on the 17th.

Nice work. I hear you about the labor effort. I built my 20 x 28 ft shed myself. Took me 2 months. I pre-paint all the pieces before installing them because I really dislike standing on a ladder with a paint brush in my hand.

No, the place is called Maple Ridge Metal. I've dealt with them for a few years now and they're fantastic folks, great product and great price.

Thanks Dave, looking forward to seeing the roof and siding going up.

Well, my framing was passed by the inspector this week.

Hope my Roofing Metal came in so I can get that up this weekend.

We've decided on board and batten siding, got a good deal from a local Amish fellow on 1x12 pine boards and 1x2 battons.

Plan is to have it all done and dusted by end of September

The big PITA now is that I have to back fill a decent portion of it inside. You can see from the pics it was built on a slight slope. Unfortunately the way timing worked out I wasnt able to back fill & level it beore i started. Im on a tight budget here, so I was waiting for my large bank barn to be excavated and back filled with sand to stop the heaving on the foundation wall (long term project to Save a 100 yr old 35x70 Gambrel roof barn - see my avatar). Now thats just been done, I have all the dirt that came out to use in the leveling of the new Shed floor.

The real head slapper is that my 6x6 posts are spaced 6' on center and I have a 6' bucket on the loader  I can get the dirt into the portch area no problem (8' opening) but I have to use my "Armstrong & Barrow" earth moving equipment to get it the rest of the way in.

Build a chute out of a few 2x scraps and a piece of ply? Even if you have to shovel/rake the dirt out of the chute onto the floor, it might speed things up a little...just a thought.

Can you borrow or rent a smaller tractor with 60" bucket? Hand wheeling hurts, unless you can get the teenager to bring the football team over.

Here are some update pictures, the roofing is done and the siding is in progress. Boards are up but battons are still to be done.

Pic's 1, 4 and 6 show the portch, you'll see from the floorI still have a pile of dirt to put in the floor to level it (see pic 2 for the dirt I still have to transplant)
Pic 3 shows a bitof the inside and 5' divider wall (in progress)
Pics 2 and 5 give you a wider shot of the outside wall, and the 6' sliding doorway Im putting in the one side.

Remaining work:

Battons
Facia Boards
Doors
6x6 railing for Portch
Dirt/Foor leveling
Patio Stones for Portch
