I like to show TBNers pictures about my tractor and more but when the time comes to choose the size of them I never know which size I should use (in posts and in the gallery). /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I like big pictures but I do it for you guys after all. So I'd like to know which size should I use in order for you to see them correctly on your screen? Let's say for instance: 640x480, 800x600 or 1024x748. My screen display is 1280x1024 so I'm not a good exemple.

I'm sorry for the topic (not about tractor /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ) but I'm pretty sure that other TBNers who post pictures here too ask themselves the same question.

Thanks

Attachments
Attachments to posts must be within the 100k size limit, and 800x600 resolution (or smaller) is preferred. Use the JPEG format to get compression.

For the Photo Gallery
Per the FAQ: Photos may not exceed 500kb in file size. There are no pixel dimension limits, but all photos exceeding 1280x1024 pixels will automatically be resized down to 1280x1024 for the largest view.

Your personal member photo gallery has a disk space limit of 5mb (5,000kb). For example, this would allow you to upload 20 photos which were 250kb in file size, or 50 photos 100kb in file size.

Ok, there's a misunderstanding here. I know how to post a picture. I just want to know what size people prefer? For instance, if someone post a pic let's say 1600x1200, it's a pain in the neck for me because I cannot see the whole picture on my screen so I have to slide vertically and horizontally to see the picture part by part. So if I post in 1024x768 is it too large to see it in one shot? I know it depends on people display size but if most TBNers are using 800x600 I'll stop posting in 1024x768 and I'll limit myself to 800x600 or 640x480.

This is not a technical question, it's just about preferences.

I've attached a picture in 1280x960 to show my point.

Thanks for the answer anyways. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I looked at my attachment and found out that Windows is resizing the picture to fit the size of the screen. So one size or another changes nothing. I think I'll go for a smaller size like 800x600 with better quality though.

Thanks again folks

Stef; Your attachment looked fine to me. I have a 17" monitor, if that means anything. I think I usually show 800X600 when I send an attachment, using the pix resizer that came with WinXP. I've found that to be the easiest for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't need them that big. I think the preferred size of 800x600 that DocHeb mentioned is a good guide.
Not for me to decide what the admins want us to do on their site, IMO. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Nice looking pair of tractors (toys?) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Stef - after the pic downloads and resizes, if you hover your mouse in the upper left corner, you should notice a set of icons to save, print, email or open the My Pictures folder. Alternatively, if you hover your mouse in the lower right corner , we should see a square icon that appears to view the pic in full size. Hence the question is moot. Either way, with a smaller monitor, we get two sizes anyway! Ain't Windows Wunerful! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The size of you monitor has no bearing -- it's the resolution you have set up on your monitor. I have no problem viewing your photo as well, but my display resolution is set up for 1280x1024.

I think over 70% of people today are running at 1024x768 or higher, if they are running at less, it may be that is how the PC came setup and they did not attempt to change it, or they have an old PC. A safe size would be 800x600 for uploading images. That size can be easily seen on any display setting -- even if someone is setup for 640x480 (less than 1%) there is not much scrolling that would need to be done.

Stef,

I think 1024x768 is a good compromise. Easy to see details, small enough where you can store a lot of them.
