I hate negotiating. Absolutely hate it. I like Spencer's approach to listing the price. I like the way some of the car dealerships are going. Best price on the window. I do like service though and it means more to me than the actual price. I like people who are not afraid to make recomendations based on the information I give them about my needs. I don't like sales people telling me what I need without knowing what I need.

As far as someone else who wants a better price because they have bought a lot, I think it is fine if the dealer says, well, Mr so and so, this is our price, but because you have bought so much from us I can knock off an extra XX amount. I think that is ok but would never expect it.

I have not seen that but it sounds good. A knowledgable consumer who has done their homework will know immediately if the selling price is fair or not. If the posted prices are firm, there's always room to negotiate on service, implements, filters etc.

I had visited several big 3 dealers before purchasing and got everything from "that tractor will be about $$$" to formal quotes signed and with expiration dates. I liked the TC24D until the dealer added $700 on for insurance. JD said all they needed was to place a call to my home owners insurance agent.

When I became serious and knew what I wanted, I sent quote request to the 3 closest JD dealers via email from JD's dealer locator, got replies from 2. When the closest dealer came in with a detailed quote 22% off list, I called him and with a credit card number for a deposit, he orderd it. Went in the following weekend and gave him a check for the deposit to replace the credit card. All in all, one of the most painless big ticket purchases I've made.

Well the core products we sell over and over again you get to know those well. When someone comes in to buy something that you sell one or two of a year the well schooled customer would probably have the advantage as far a knowledge of the product. We spend countless hours every year going to sales schools and reading up on products but someone always catches you on something. The new salesguy however might not have it all down when you talked to him, this is a constant learning process with things constantly changing. The more seasoned sales professional is going to know his stuff more often than not knowing it.

Actually the breaks we give come after the sale with free pickup and delivery, discounts on parts and service for as long as you own the tractor or equipment, free labor on the 50 hour service things like that. I just dont think it is fair to have different pricing structures on equipment, for different customers. This is the way we operate and it works extremely well for us.
