IMHO the plan is a joke. And the FCC, well no comment.

Well, the combination of the FCC and this plan is a joke.

You cannot regulate what is not available.

Now a mandate on the other hand.... that might get private industry moving....

Cable does not exist in my area.
DSL is available but the distance between my home and the phone company's
central office makes it impractical.
Satellite - I have yet to hear one good thing about Hughes, except from Hughes of course.

We had DSL for years on wire with the phone company and just got fiber optic last year. The wired DSL was fine 25 miles from the central office. Now on fiber it is almost instant. Ken Sweet

DSL does not work anywhere near 25 miles. They put a DSL box (DSLAM) in your neighborhood which then communicates back to the central office (CO). That part may be fiber. Years ago when I had dial-up the most speed I could get was 24K because that had to go clear back to the CO. Since my DSL only has to go to a nearby box I get a solid 6Meg connection.
