How about a two stroke motor lawnmower?
I had one in a push mower, but knew it wouldn't last long around here. I was running over the road and wife and daughter were mowing the yard. They would end up forgetting which mower needed which can of gas and the pure gas would kill the engine. A friend's wife had just killed his, so I gave it to him and he was a happy camper.
I would probably sell you my Ford if you wanted to spend some money. It has a slope mower on it. At over 10,000 pounds, it makes for one serious lawnmower.

Was away last week and catching up now. the 2cycle was my thought too. I had a used lawn boy once that was powerful, light, and the kids could not burn it up on the steep hills. makes sense to me.

That was a Lawn Boy that I was talking about. I am sure there are others, but not sure how many are produced today due to EPA regulations.
I would seriously look at used ones and maybe even grab a couple for parts if this idea tickled your fancy.
Hydraulic motors are also an option. As fast as I am collecting them, I ought to go into that line of business.

If your pond is big, you need a sicklebar cutter. My pond has roughly over a half mile of shoreline (2 tributaries). I can trim it in 30-45 minutes. I have a JD 350 9 foot cutter. I have well over $1000 invested in it. It doesn't use much HP but it needs a fairly wide 3pt mount on the lower rocker arms which means it won't quite fit my 4310 JD. Our 5420 doesn't even know its back there. Do a search for JD 350 and you'll see some pic's here. Not much to look at, and quite a contraption to get hooked up, but when everything is working, it's a great tool!

2nd to this is backing a shredder (rotary cutter) into the water. I do this with my hydrostatic tranny. I wouldn't want to do it with a clutch. It is also a neck craner. Keep some advil handy if you go this route.
