Not sure this is tractor realated but I thought yall might be able to help me.I have a piece of property in Douglas county georgia with a 1-1.5 acre pond that has watermeal on the surface and I can't seem to get rid of it. I have tried a quart of Avast/sonar 6 weeks ago. Can anyone help me out?? Anyone deal with this stuff?? Apparently it is a big problem and hard to control. Anyone?

It is always mentioned in the same breathe as duckweed but it is not exactly the same thing. Thanks for the links.

Niles,

As I recall the chemicals to use would be a Reward/Sonar mixture, but I don't know the exact rates off the top of my head. Let me check my records and I'll get back with you. I should be able to help you out.

Sonar takes a long time to work, so there is still hope.

I had the same problem in my pond in central TN. Tried a bunch of various chemicals at various concentrations with little effect. Maybe I finally got enough horse/donkey pee in it to kill the crap, but I'd like to think the swimming pool chlorine tabs I threw in helped! My pond is about 50'x70' and only a few feet deep. It is the only drinking water source for the stock, so I needed to be very careful with concentrations. This was hard to do considering I was guessing! I used either 3 or 4 of the big 3" chlorine tabs from Home Depot... just chunked them in, distributed around the edges, but far enough in to not be right where the stock drink. I repeated the application about every 2-3 weeks over the last half of last summer. My guess is that the tabs sink into the muck at the bottom and release fairly slowly.

nah not sure that chlorine is what i want to do as there are some pretty nice size fish in the pond that might protest that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
