Pond Sealing -> Sodium Bentonite

   / Pond Sealing -> Sodium Bentonite #21
I just had an idea of where to get clay to seal my leaky pond.
It is under my topsoil. It is about 18 inches down.
Does that sound like a good solution?

No, not at my place.

Under the topsoil is cliche. Which is very good for roadbase or septic systems, but won't hold water. Under that is solid rock. I drilled down near my house and hit rock at 18 inches. Drilled 9 more feet and still did not come out through the first rock!

Sure if you have enough and don't mind digging up you topsoil. Having your topsoil stripped back and clay dug up may be close to the same price as trucking. There would be a lot of variables to factor like the price of the clay etc.

I don't have any clay on my property. The Bentonite worked well for me due to the small pond I was sealing. If I had to do a big pond (like Wen) it would not be cost effective to seal with Bentonite (the stuff is not mined near me at all). Best of luck!
