Pondering building a house for my tractor

I'm putting pallet racks in my shop. Seven feet tall. 48" deep. One eight foot wide section and one twelve foot wide section. Three sets of horizontal rails for each section. I plan on putting a lot of big/heavy stuff on the racks. Mainly stuff that I don't use often but take up a lot of floor space. Box blade, 4' bush hog, 60" belly mower, tiller, lawn mower, 3' X 4' trailer, edger, hurricane panels for the house (I live on the Texas gulf coast), etc. I should have room left over for quite a bit of small stuff, as well as being able to store some lumber and pipe on the top rails. I have pallet forks for my tractor so I can get everything as needed.

Total cost of the racks is about $700. All new stuff.

I plan to put a small tool bench in the garage. Just enough for the tractor.

I like the idea of the pallet shelves. I'll definitely think about that one. I'm not sure I would trust putting the bush hog up on a shelf though. Anything that has a possibility of easily killing me if it fell on me is a little scarry to raise.

opps typing or spelling note sure what is my problem. Your right chain is what ment to say, I hope I did not keep people up wondering what a Jhain hoist was.

The heavy items (bush hog, box blade, MMM, etc.) will go on the bottom pallet shelf so they will be less than a foot off of the ground, which let's me gain the advantage of getting that stuff off of a concrete floor. The middle and upper pallet shelves will be used for lighter (and seldom used) items.

One thing to think about is a large door in the front and one in the back, make your garage a drive through, solves a lot of problems at times when things can stacked behind the tractor via the convenient "front door" only to have everything blocked in.

What about a hoist to work on your car(s)?. If this is something you are ever considering, make sure the rafters are high enough up in the air to account for a car or truck being up on a hoist.

I wish my shop would allow me to do that, a car no problem, my 1 ton pickup - NO way.

you cant have enough air outlets in a garage. Put some outside for filling tires and such. Some right at the work bench. And close enough down the side walls that you dont need hoses stretchd every where. As little as pvc costs run it all the way around the 3 side walls and t out to a quick connect fitting /or cap them off and add fittings as desired. We even put a 50' hose reel on the back wall in the middle bay of a 3 car 24'x50' garage so one hose can reach all over and even 26'out the middle door.( can you tell Im getting old and lazy? )even have air powered grease gun now

Well...I don't work on our cars significantly so I think I'll pass on the hoist idea but it's a good one. I think the wife thinks I break things in order to fix them so she lets the auto shops break them instead. Though I do want to have enough concrete down so that I don't crack it if I use a floor jack in there...
