Pool in a day... BX23 style!

I was excavating some rock out of this hillside to use in a retaining wall, when I began to get really hot. Realized that this secluded little area in the middle of our property would be an ideal place to cool off. So, as usual, I got sidetracked from the project at hand and went to work leveling out the area, popped over to the closest Target store... and "Poof"... instant pool. These things are great! The pool is only around $80 bucks, has a filter and cover, takes no assembly, and is about 3' deep and 12' across. You just fill it up! Pretty neat little design, the weight of the water pushing out against the sides of the pool, and the shape (tapered at the top) is what allows it to stand freely. Big enough to have the whole family floating comfortably. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Only problem now is... yeah, I want to dig a real pool in the same spot. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Anyone ever dig a pool with their tractor? My neighbor did it, and it took him like 6 months of nights and weekends, but the thing is enormous!

Got the 15 ft model myself. Quick and simple which is good. Kids like it too. My town building inspector wants a permit for this pool. Complete with GFI, underground conduit, fence and the whole 9 yards. I laughed him off because they're everywhere but then he puts in the town letter a big article about it threatening everyone about code ect...ect....

I said to him what if next year I want the pool here or there? Do I need a permit? He said yes. I thought portable objects like this were not subject to permits? I fold it up and put it away in the winter. So this has gotten into a pissing contest with him. I'd rather pay the fines then give him his ego trip he likes to pull.

Wow, you've got to be kidding...
Thanks for the heads up on keeping things out of sight. We just started having to get inspections for everything we do around here and a small pool half sunk in the ground was on my list of things to do. Moreso for a wading pool for dogs. I didn't realize some overzealous inspector would consider a portable/take down pool something that required a permit, unless it's because that one has a filter needing electric.

We bougth the 15' model too and set it up on the edge of our concrete driveway. Took about 30 minutes to hose and sweep off the concrete, lay out the pool and filter pump, and get the water flowing.
I bought this for the kids as a reward for helping me put in a 75 foot french drain (trying to instill a little work-ethic) /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hi, just had to weigh in on your pool dilema just one of the reasons I will never consider living in the east again!!!

We've got the same pool for our kids also, bought it last year at a garage sale. It's a few years old but I can't remember if its 12' or 15'. I looked out the back door yesterday and it was spewing water out the top, the upper hose broke. It pumped out about 1/2 the water across the back yard before I stopped it & plugged the inlet/outlet. Our newspaper had an article a few weeks ago about a local twp pushing their pool ordinances around on these too.

My wife and I bought the 18' model last summer. We had it up all last summer, took it down and stored it over the winter, then put it back up this summer. We love it. I get off of my tractor and immediately jump in the pool to cool off.
Just last week our upper hose on the pump burst. Luckily I noticed it as soon as I turned on the filter so I didn't lose very much water. The top of the ladder is the only sign of wear on the whole pool. The sun is just fading it and I am sure it will crack soon. I told my wife when we bought it that I would be satisfied if we got two summers use out of it.
