<font color=blue>"I have a retractable (about 4 years now) and didn't pay near $3,000 for it. Without looking it up, I know it was under $1,000."</font color=blue>

Beenthere,

Hmm /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif, that's interesting. I wonder what the difference might be? I have to believe my buddy, 'cause he plays golf with me! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Is yours one of the brands you can order direct from a company, or is it custom made? The price he gave me may also have something to do with the fact that the way it attaches to the house had some strange angles because of a bay window that was in the way. Sounds like you got a good deal. Glad you're happy with it! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

<font color=blue>"If your humidity is low enough you may want to tie-wrap a mister hose across the front beam to add a little more cooling in the afternoon."</font color=blue>

GS,

Humidity's been a real problem so far this year. Just the last few days have been really pleasnat, but the weather guessers say the humidity is coming back. Not a bad idea, though. May have to look into it. Thanks. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

<font color=blue>"So I guess you have narrowed your search down to the New Holland."</font color=blue>

Spence,

I knew you'd notice! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif When the wife was picking out the colors and she kept going back to the blue, I said that she had been unconsciously affected by the NH brochures I have laying around. Granted, I do have other colors laying around too, but I've made no bones about the fact that I have been leaning toward blue! I don't know about parking underneath it though. Wifey might think it's a little pricey to be used as a tractor storage area! It could clash with her flowers! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Alan,

We have some friends that live in Austin. They think it's a hoot whenever it's hotter here (or colder there), so they call us to laugh. I forget what day it was, but a few days ago they called again to let us know that it was hotter here. I didn't think about asking if the awning had an asbestos lining or not. I'll have to check on that! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Poor Man\'s Air Conditioning

Love the awning. We too, have been trying to get some shade for our deck. I've put in some big trees on the south and east side, but I can't put any on the west end because that's where the septic tank is. Darn, now I have to get an awning. I wonder If I can turn that into a tractor project ? /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

<font color=blue>"I wonder If I can turn that into a tractor project ?"</font color=blue>

Well, let's see if we can figure this out /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif.

They had to drill 3 holes in the ground - Yup - PHD Tractor Project /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

They needed to use a couple of ladders - Yup - Personal Lift Tractor Project /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

They needed to carry a WHOLE bunch of tools and supplies - Yup - FEL and/or Carryall Tractor Project /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The only part I haven't figured out yet is how to do the sewing with the tractor /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Geesh, I don't even have my tractor yet and I'm conjuring up projects! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

If you live in a hot and sunny place its fine. I live in a hot and humid place. An Awning doesnt help!.

Re: Poor Man\'s Air Conditioning

I hear you Gary. Like I mentioned in one of the other replies, it's been very hot and humid here for the last week or so. I agree that the awning doesn't help much in those kinds of conditions, but for just a few minutes, the shade does feel pretty darn good when you first walk under it!

This awning is for the days when the temperatures are comfortable (mid 70's) and the humidity is low, and we can sit out there and enjoy the evening! Fortunately, we have more of those than those hot and humid ones!

Re: Poor Man\'s Air Conditioning

Nice awning. It should serve you well. I have a buddy that has/had the same deal you have. He loves his but the company he bought from went under while the awning was in storage. It took a litttle while to get it back. I hope that does not happen to you. It is a great service though.

Re: Poor Man\'s Air Conditioning

Thanks cj7,

We like it. The company had better not go under! The owner is one of my golfing buddies, I know where he lives, and he wants to hire me and my tractor (as soon as I get it) when he needs to dig post holes for the awnings. When he was erecting my awning, I was watching he and another worker trying to wrestle around one of those 2 man gas powered augers. I kept telling him how easy it would've been if he had a small compact (or sub-compact) with a PHD to do that for him. He says he doesn't know anyone with one. I comment that he knows someone that plans on getting one (I didn't mention that it might be 3 years!/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif). He said that as soon as I got it, he'd hire me for all the holes that he would need to dig for fixed awnings.

So he'd better not go under!! /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif
