the color don't matter. they could all be black with a white stripe and as long as each wire goes tot he correct palce that is all that counts.
PS... the oem wire harness did NOT handle the leamps. there was a seperate lamp wire harness.
on a 1 wire alt.. just use the heavy armature wire meant for the genny, and at the wireing pont for the reg.. wire the heavy armature wire to the equally heavy gen/bat wire, and ignore the smaller field and possibly, ground wires that would run to the genny.
This is NOT difficult.
take notes.
here's what you need to make a 12v 8n w/ 1 wire alt , w/ headlamps .. run.
battery + to start solenoid.
battery - to chassis
charge wire from alt to one side of ammeter ( 2 posts )
OTHER side of ammeter to start solenoid where bat + wire is located
wire from ammter where alt is hooked up to bottom terminal on 3 terminal ballast resistor board. .. wire from that same terminal to key.. other wire from key to one of the top terminals... there is a resistor betweent he top terminals. OTHER unused top terminal runs to coil ( if it is a 12v coil.. then just use the ballast resistor and the coil. if it is a 6v coil.. you will need to add in an 8ne10306 resistor into this line runnig to the top of the coil ) ( this assumes front mount dizzy )
for adding lamps. run a wire from that lower 3rd terminal on the ballast resistor board OR the post on the ammeter where the alt is hooked ( they are electrically the same place ).. to a lamp switch with a fuse holder, from t he lamp switch to the lmaps.. from t he lamps to ground.
thus.. the ammeter has all charge and electrical loads on one side and the batter ont he other side. No other wires on the battery side.
the oem 3 terminal solenoid will have the small 3rd terminal facing the block, and have a small wire run from that terminal to the terminal on the safety interlock start switch on the tranny top cover.
that's it.
that's why i said you don't need a wire diagram.. and the colors don't matter...
there is like 3' or wire on an old 8n.... it's not a car that has 2 miles of wire and thousands of wires....
