Junk,
a high powered pellet rifle, such as a Sheridan or Benjamin will work fine and not make much noise. I have been covered up by racoons this year, body bagged 3 so far with my sheridan...will keep it up till they stay out of the garbage cans.

Junkman -- With six curious dogs, porcupines are one of the animals I will shoot on sight. A couple of weeks ago a couple of hikers on Mt Mansfield spent a horrible night after their Husky was quilled multiple times in the face after encountering a porc in between two large boulders. The dog couldn't back up fast enough and really took a beating! They actually called out the local hazardous terrain rescue team to free the dog, which was blinded and terrified. Pete
