Portable Generator for temp power outages.

It all certainly doesn't bode well for small genny owners looking for fuel in widespread outages.

not for a space heater, or gas logs. Gas water heater either. Unless you have a tankless

Old style gas water heaters have a pilot light, but new ones have hot surface ignition, and power venting....saves energy, but won't operate without electric power!
Gas fired hot air furnaces, and boilers, need electricity to operate as well.

Where there is a will there is a way!
Worst possibility? ---back to the main breaker panel.

Breaker panel jury rig would be the answer.

At the dealership we had an old wayne pump.... at least 60+ years in service... when power went out I used a generator at the panel... no problem.

The only thing is when the pump was not used for a certain period of time it lost prime and would need to pour about a quart or so into the base and good to go.

Are modern pumps that different?

Same here. I wired lots of service stations. The only place you can tie in would be at the breaker. But then you would have to also power up the point of sales systems, fuel leakage detection system, turbines, etc. not something a small portable can do now days.

Flip all breakers off except for pumps.

Modern pumps are interconnected thru computers, point of sales, leak detection system, etc etc. lots of wires run out to pumps. You can’t just power a pump anymore.

Much easier to drop a siphon hose and pump into tank opening.

But here IN N Idaho, when there’s a power outage, if you want gas or diesel better plan for a drive to a part of town with power. I don’t know of a single station with a gen. The new super 1 grocery store has a generator, and that’s nice cause they stayed open during the outage. But the gas station next door was dark.

That's what I was thinking, but no one would allow that. Best if a guy had a trap door in the floor of his truck. And then try not to incinerate himself. lol

Wasn't there a rash of thefts during fuel rationing where thousands of gallons were siphoned at stations in the dark of night?

I know they sold a lot of locking gas caps and that little coil spring insert to foil auto fuel thieves...

Some years ago, we trid to siphon a little gas out of my lady friends HONDA FIT. That thing wouldn't give us a drop!

Actually, not a bad thing to know, if push comes to shove what you can get some fuel out of.

Locking gas caps just slow them down. We had a work truck with an empty tank. The thieves unhooked the flex hose that ran between filler cap and tank. Drained tank that way. Took every last drop.
