Portable Jump Starter

   / Portable Jump Starter #81
Anecdotal- my F250 7.3 Diesel (twin batteries) has always taken long cranking to start. Ran the batteries down cranking it and had to call a tow truck. He hooked up a fairly large battery pack that wouldn't crank it fast enough to start. His jumper cables started it right up.

I bought this one and it self discharged and eventually stopped taking a charge. It's crap. Amazon.com
Replaced with this one which small enough to carry in the car/van. Works good.
I cant believe you thought the Jump and Carry 660 was junk , I have had mine for 12 years and it will start a big deisel truck . I have always kept it plugged in because it only takes a charge when it needs it but Clore Automotive that makes JNC660 has been the go to for dealers for years because of their power and longevity. Yes its a little heavy compared to the new Litium Ion ones that I might try if this one ever goes bad , I would want to find one that only charges when needed though so I could leave it plugged in if thats possible with them .

I did not keep it plugged in all the time. I don't recall the instructions saying to do so.

I haven't seen that in the manual either. I do charge mine periodically when I happen to think of it when I see it.
I have actually bought two of them per amazon one stays at the farm and one in my garage.
We use them as jump starters on a multitude of tractors and pickups. There has been a time or two that we have actually used both of them at the same time (winter time cold, almost completely dead batteries, tractor had been sitting for a couple of months). One wouldn't do it, put it back on charge, went to lunch, brought the second one over and both of them together got it started.
We also use them as 12 volt power sources quite often, they work good on fuel pumps, and on equipment with diverter valves for the hydraulics without having to tap into the tractor electrics.
