Possible rent to own situation?

Don't know about the warranty. I'll have to ask.
I did call the Bota dealer back. He'll do 4% instead of 5%. This is about a $225 a month difference. They definitely want to work with me.
I can't decide on the bush hog though. They will sell me one at 10% over cost. I think it is a 6' Woods bush hog. It would be around $1200-$1300. For my light useage, I'm having a hard time justifying it. I can get a King Kutter 6' for about $650 brand new. Thoughts?

never heard of such a deal with a tractor. what happens if u use it for 3 months($3000.00) and decide not to buy it? that is a lot of rent $$$$.i would think u really need to know that u are going to purchase before i would commit.

The dealer is taking a fairly sizable risk too. How much would expect a new used tractor that has who knows how many hours on it and has obviously been used to be discounted? I would think a somewhat significant amount would need to be taken off, otherwise I'd look at the new (and unused) tractors. Just my opinion though.
Just wanted to update everyone on my situation. I now have 42 hours on my tractor. I still have not signed any paper work, gave them no money, etc... It's like a free tractor. However, they still don't have a toothbar for my tractor /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
They said they would take care of the money and paper work as soon as they got me a tooth bar. That was weeks ago. I'm liking the "free" tractor, but just wonder what will happen when they settle up. I hope they don't back charge me for everything. I guess they could, but I could also return it too.

...financing rate is usually higher than a NEW machine...
I checked with Kubota Creadit on this a few months ago... this is what the guy said... "USED"... not "NEW"...

From what they said, they would be able to do new financing. BUT what you say may be true. The only thing I did, was get a credit approval. They have nothing else from me. I have a written and signed quote from them too. I guess, if they try to stick me with used financing, I can just tell them to take it back. They never made me or ask me to sign anything. They just brought it down.
In fact, Kubota actually called me to see if I had the tractor. It was missing from their inventory. They said the dealer told them I was in the process of buying it.
It may get interesting before it is said and done. All I know, is that I have not signed any papers for anything.

It sounds like the dealer is just letting this float on his floor plan with Kubota. That's OK so long as they stay in business and Kubota doesn't pull the plug on them. Remember, your deal with the dealer doesn't obligate Kubota at all if this whole dealership goes under. As you have no money invested yet, you're OK, but I'd sure be wary.
It sounds like this dealer could be doing this to get capital for day to day operating expenses while not paying these off from Kubota as he does it. I could be wrong, but i've seen it done before in exactly this manner.
If I were you I'd take the couple grand I already had for a down payment and add the couple grand you would have given them for these 'free weeks' of use and go ahead and buy the thing and get all of your paperwork the day you let go of the money.
If I'm wrong in my suspicions, doing this costs you little or nothing. If I'm right, it could save you thousands.

Yea, it sounded strange to me that the manufacturer, Kubota, would be calling a customer inquiring if they did in fact have posession of a machine, and that the dealer basically lied to Kubota saying that "you are in the process of buying" when you haven't commited to anything. In the context that Gary describes, this makes a LOT of sense.

Yes, buying now makes sense and is probably how I will handle it. But I have gotten free use of the tractor and could actually go without one until next spring if I had too.
I don't know what the dealer is doing, but I feel safe because I haven't signed anything and haven't spent any money. My plans are NOT to screw the dealer, but I won't let them screw me either. He has been good to me so far.
