I would trust Fredricks to sell a reliable machine. However, if the 4wd unit you mentioned checks out, that is a better deal IMO.

Check out the one at tractor Bob's very well. It's a VN tractor. You can tell by the loader and rops. May not be bad, just check it out very well if that's the one you want

IF this tractor has been in service for a few years and runs fine as is it is probably a good deal on it.

Ok, so if say this unit is solid, other than what is stated, what do ya'll think of this. It's the coveted (from reading on hoye website) 2210d, and their website shows those pumps for under $400. Would this be a good deal? Is this something someone could do, or something to leave for a mechanic. And yes I do see it does say fair under condition so I would need to visually look at the tractor and do a thorough inspection.

That would be my preference over anything else you posted. It's equally simple, but a far more competent model. Its heavier and the Powershift is a BIG advantage. Shift while moving and shift up/down as the slope changes, when you mow heavy/light material, whatever. This is far more productive than coming to a full stop to choose another gear with a manual transmission.

Of course check it out carefully. That is a suspiciously low price, it should cost more than your other alternatives. Replacing the pump is no big deal. The text is ambiguous whether the 4 wheel drive also needs attention - that could be expensive. The Powershift transmission is generally indestructible but make sure it works properly. Engine and cooling issues, worn tires, etc would be obvious. Brakes, electrical and appearance stuff, gauges, etc - are not very expensive to remedy. It's only $1k, budget to take care of any issues found but don't let minor problems dissuade you.

I would definitely buy that myself if the only issues are the hydraulic pump and the generally worn appearance.

Questions to ask:

1) How does he tip the hood forward with that guard (?) on there?

2) Why are there tools on the hood? What was he working on?

3) That's the mount for a removable loader, does he have it?

I wish that were closer to me if you don't want it.

Though price isn't always a reflection of value, IMHO the old adage "If a deal looks too good to be true .... " more often than not applies. I'd make that pre-purchase inspection very rigorous with a skeptical eye.

Is this something someone could do, or something to leave for a mechanic.
Yes, "someone" can DIY a hydraulic pump replacement without too much trouble but if you have to ask the general question here, maybe not you.

I'm not trying to be 'flip' or rude, just suggesting a reality check and careful avoidance of the seduction of low price coupled with too-high expectations. But yeah, it's possible that you found a diamond in the rough.

Thanks for the feedback. My number one choice is a 2210d but haven't found many around me that aren't as nearly as much as small new tractors. TX mower no sweat, I didn't take it as rude. It was actually a good piont. I don't have much experience (non at all) working on tractors....not sure I'd want to do major repairs either, not that I'm calling a hydraulic pump a major repair necessarily. I spend too much time running a business and being a dad. I do have mechanical experience when I was younger, completely restoring a 68 camaro, and doing a engine swap....but that was 19 yrs ago. My brother was a certified gm mechanic, but he's in a different line of work. I know we could do it, but not sure if realistically we'd get to it. Diesel tractors are a completely new ballgame for me.

I would want to say that if you have completely restored a 68 Camaro that you have enough general mechanical knowledge to do the pump. Many of the skills needed to figure out how things go and come apart and things to look for as to what holds something on or what needs to be removed by looking at something to get what you want to remove out will be usefull on the swap.
