Possum Holler

I don't think you can say that unequivocally; there are some recorded and some suspected cases where breathing aerosols in high-density bat caves can transmit the disease. Rare, but possible.

That's still not an easy way to get rabies.

Did you handle it with bare hands ? If your worried about rabies then you have a problem. Rabies is easy to spread, does not require a bite. Read up on it. Go see a doctor if you handled it.

Shootin straight! I know for a fact a bunch of people who got that HIV bug from sittin on a hopper.

Ah-kay. Who's "hopper" they were sitting on was part of that problem.

My chickens control the ticks very well:drink:

Yep I picked it with my bare hands and talked to it before disposing of it.

Love my Bug Buster scope on the 22 Gamo by the way, quite deadly.

When a varmint gets killed on my property I drive up to it with my FEL and rake it into the bucket. Then it's off to the other end of the garden for the buzzards. No touching them for me.

EPM in horses is a just about a death sentence. they are unsafe to ride and in later stages unsafe to be around. the cost of the treatment is so expensive practically no one will try to save the animal.

possums not welcome here.

Yep, I don't want them around here either. Plenty of woodsy areas they can relocate to. I have trapped and relocated 4 to a lake area. But this last one just got the pellet treatment. I don't need them spreading their funk to my chickens and dogs.

Why in the world would you want to kill or relocate possums? They eat an infinite amount of ticks, and are not capable of carrying rabies due to their body temperature. They certainly will not harm your chickens, my neighbor has a couple of possums that sleep in the henhouse with her chickens. They will run from your dogs.
A couple of my friends are licensed animal rehabbers, they have a couple of possums that were unable to be released and currently reside in their home, alongside pets.

Lot's of Possum lover's here I guess. I'll continue to shoot and relocate them as needed. I have no use for them. And yes they can carry rabies and all kinds of other diseases. Plus my close neighbor has horses so no Possum for us.

I shot a possum in mid-afternoon a few years back. There was one difference though . It was about 50 yards away crossing our path at a right angle. Once it saw us it took a hard left and came straight at us. It took 7 rounds of 22 long rifle to finish it andbelieve it or not I知 a good shot. After that I researched and learned that rabies in possum is rare. Their body temp is so low that the virus has trouble living in it. they are also diurnal, that is will come out in daylight as well as night. I still feel a little bad for shooting it but any wild animal that changes it path to come directly at my wife is pushing its luck.

I find the targeted banner ads in TBN very useful - the ads reflect the thread topic and display lots of choices for purchasing items that pertain to the thread.
Well, kind of - this possum thread has some interesting banner ads:
