A few days ago I bought a Shaver HD8 post driver for my Bobcat skidsteer, for a decent size fence project and a couple of smaller projects. The initial enthusiasm quickly faded, and I soon realized what a mistake it was to buy a Shaver.
At $4000, you’d think Shaver could include the appropriate assembly and operator manuals with the machine. I got neither, and the machine didn't work when I got home. It was completely unresponsive to the control valve. The sales company was at a loss, and I certainly had no idea what to do to get it working. The assembly and operator instructions included with my HD8 showed an entirely different control valve than what was actually installed. The proper manuals couldn't even be found on the Shaver website (or any other website) for download.
The Shaver post driver is a potentially hazardous and deadly expensive piece of machinery. It’s pretty pathetic, and a potential liability, that Shaver fails to include proper documentation. What if the operator gets hurt improperly assembling or operating the machine? An email complaint, via the Shaver website, is still unanswered.
I returned the Shaver for a full refund, and ordered a Danuser Hammer instead. It cost me nearly double, but has more features and has better reviews. In fact, the distributor made a negative comment to my sales guy about Shaver, and my sales guy said they would stop selling Shavers due to a few issues they've recently had with Shaver and their products. The owner of the sales company owns a Danuser Hammer and said it’s the best piece of equipment he owns. I hope I feel the same in a couple of days when I take delivery of mine.
