Hey all,
I'm looking for an inexpensive post hole digger and need some advice. Looked at previous posts /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif (ha no pun intended), seems like Greenline, TSC and Bemco are some. Tried to find TSC on the web but couldn't find it. Any suggestions?

I don't think TSC does any mail order sales so if you don't have a store anywhere near you then you might be out of luck. I believe the TSC units are SPEECO brand PHDs, I think Northern Tool also sells the SPEECO units and they will ship them to you. Sometimes the prices of shipping gets prohibitive so it you should factor that into your total cost. I've found it is often better to pay more locally than it is to get larger things shipped, but that is NOT always true.

I was very restricted by budget last summer when I bought my PHD. The cheapest I could find was a Farm Star brand at my local Farm & Fleet. Farm Star Equipment I seem to remember the power head and frame being about $250, and the 9" auger another $100. Drilled a couple hundred holes with it, and it has worked great.

A cheap hole digger will drive you crazy and it's not worth it dealing w/the headaches and trying to find a buddy to hold it down. Get a Danuser F-9 or equivilant. If not then just rent a Skidsteer w/an holedigger attachment whenever you need it.

How many holes, and what size, do you have to dig?

I bought a GREENLINE FM5500 PHD WITH A 9" AUGER from Northern Tool. Delivered it was $565 and it works great. G

Mike,
I have about 300 holes at 9", then I have 12" ones later. I perfer not to do it in one day, otherwise I would just rent one.

Is this for a fence? IOW, and I'm not being sarcastic /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif , is the goal to dig holes or put in posts?
