TSC in my area has their County Line Multi-Fit post hole digger power unit Stk. No. 2100220 on sale at $50.00 of normal price which says it's for compact, catagory 1 & 2. Since I don't dig many holes I think it is sufficient for my needs. Has anyone had experience with it, and for my B2920, 29HP, 21HP at PTO on black gumbo soil would the 9" auger be OK? I think that size would be my best for multi-use. 6" is too small, and I fear 12" would be too large. Any thoughts, experience?
Thanks in advance for replies.

I have an older Tsc digger on my 2910 and the 9" will dig to china in black dirt. Same with the 12". In rocky soils the 12" tends to break shear bolts frequently but the 9" doesn't. The tractor doesn't care which auger is on, it doesnt lug at all unless the auger grabs and starts screwing into the ground. Then you are in trouble.

I bought one of these yesterday on the last day of the sale. I had a gift card so it brought my out of pocket cost down a little more. I never see used PHDs on Craigslist anywhere near $400...... so I figured, what the heck. I haven't tried it yet on my B3030, but I can't imagine your 2920 will have any problem running it, even with the 12" auger.

I used one to dig about 120 holes for a fence with my B7800. My soil was heavy clay with some rock.

It worked well (6, 9 and 12 inch auger), and I was not able to break it, even when rocking the tractor to get the auger out of the ground.

The key to digging holes is to take a little bit at a time...down, 6 inches, up to clear, rinse and repeat until you get to the depth you want. You will, at some time, allow the auger to screw the tractor into the ground due to inattention. When this happens you can usually loosen the auger enough to pop out by rocking the tractor back and forth. You might ocassionally need a digging bar to help get the auger going in the right direction.
