Are you meaning the lift pins on the digger are category 2, and you tractor is cat. 1 ?? If so, just get cat. 1 pins at a farm store TSC/ Rural King etc. and switch them out. As long as you can lift it high enough for the auger to clear the ground when transporting you should be fine. Depending on your soil just drill down at a time maybe 10"-12" at a time, lift and let it clean the auger out then drill more. Don't just drop it and try to dig a full depth hole all at once, depending on the soil it may just pull itself down and you'll not be able to pull it back up. Just go about 1/3 the total depth (I'm assuming 30" - 36" deep) pull out & clean then go again. If you have rocky soil, it'd be a good idea to have a large pipe wrench in case the auger pulls itself under a rock or wedges itself. About the only way to back them up is with a pipe wrench on the auger.

Better to get implements that are rated for your tractor. The pins part is fine 1-2 just means it can work with either.

Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done. The potential for long-term damage is not worth whatever savings you had. Even if there is no damage, you will likely deal with frustrations because your tractor is under powered for this implement. The mfg will simply refer you back to their minimum HP and you will be SOL.

Worth a shot, since you bought it already.

Run it at moderate-slow speed, don't just give it it's head and let it drill down at an uncontrolled rate.

Certainly DON'T use the hydraulic ram to push the auger down harder:

TMG Industrial 48” Hydraulic Assist Post Hole Digger, 12” Auger, Category 1 & 2, PTO Shaft Included, TMG-TPD12
Thank you that’s what I was hoping I wouldn’t use the hydraulic to push it down harder but what about to pull it up if it gets stuck

Thanks I will run it low and slow probably won’t even use the hydraulics. If I get a bigger tractor, I’ll put it on just to use it to lift out if it gets stuck.

If you don't mind sharing, what did it run you? My tractor is a bit bigger (55 HP) and I'd like one of those, but the price difference between those and a 3pt digger is hard to swallow.

I won it at Ritchie Bros auction in Chehalis for 600 out the door with fees, 750. They give you the hoses the hydraulic cylinder 12 inch bit and a nice long driveshaft. I like that long driveshaft for my PTO Generator. I figured that’s what I would pay for a standard one at Wilco or tractor supply. someday when I grow up, I’ll have a bigger tractor.hoses are 5’ quick release on one end.

I was under the impression from reading the description on the website that the hydraulic ram was for additional downforce only.

From the product description:

Hydraulic cylinder assist to drive the auger into harder ground; oversized 3-point hitch A-frame with additional reinforcement

You might be right I just noticed it has two hoses, so proves how much I know about hydraulics
