Thanks for your input. Valley Ag & Turf in Hallifax certainly has the lowest prices. I should know since I prices 2210s this past Summer from JD dealers as far as "Sales Tax Free" Delaware. I'm glad to hear that they've got a good rep. I did my tire kicking at Foremost, but wasn't that impressed. No one was willing to let me try out the 2210 at my farm, but they did mention the 30-day money back satisfaction guarantee. One day I dropped in at a JD/Kutbota dealer east of Danville and was pleased how honest, knowlegeable, and helpful they were. I'll be going back there for more technical advice when I get the chance.

Several people have voived reservations about using a standard PHD with the limited CAT 1 hitch. I was told at Foremost that it is a full CAT 1 hitch for limited use. I'm not convinced. The Woods PHD 25 digger brochure states it can be used on a limited CAT 1 hitch, but the same brochure stated you needed a full CAT 1 hitch for the Woods GTC 52 tiller. I know of several 2210 owners who use this tiller, though. It can all be so confusing for a newbie, like myself.

By the way, what dealer do you deal with down in Adams County?

Anjou, the Woods PHD 25 is specifically designed for sub-compacts according to the Woods rep I spoke to. It works very well on my sub-compact in very rocky, hard packed soil. With the PHD 25 you will have plenty of clearance (you won't be dragging the tip of the auger bit on the ground from hole to hole) and will not have to "back down" to drill the hole. Also, a 12" extension is available from Woods.

I bought my 40" Woods tiller at a Kubota dealer. I asked about the 52" Woods tiller. He said he never had any complaints from a BX owner using the 52" tiller. I went with the 40" just to be sure I had more than enough power to till deep and to break sod. The 40" tiller has done everything I needed it ti do, especially break new sod. It comes with a slip clutch. There are many dealers of Woods equipment and parts are easy to get if you need them. Good luck with your decision and be careful when operating your new equipment.

I have a 52" bush hog tiller on my BX2200. Works fine. I'm in hard pack clay and it cuts right through. I usually run it at half throttle and it never breaks a sweat!

Anjou,

In my area O.C. Rice is the dealer that most use. I go to foremost because I have dealt with them for many years, buying a fair amount of equipment from them. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif For my construction stuff I use Plasterer Equipment in Lewisberry. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As has been posted many times on TBN; it is critical to locate a dealer you feel comfortable with. It sounds like you have already started your evaluation process by visiting and "interviewing" perspective candidates. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I purchased some equipment from ValleyAg, when they were Tobias Equipment. At the time I needed a rear blade and landscape rake. They were selling Land Pride then and I've had both units for about ten years. I use them hard and they keep working well. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I'm told that Valley is really growing/expanding and developing a solid customer base.

I could be wrong on this, but it sounds like in the future you will be adding to your fleet for some of your "chores" after you get your initial project done! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif That will be something enjoyable. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

hhw,

For the remainder of this year and most of 2006, I need to focus on getting the house built. It's mainly just my wife and I and we've never done anything of this magnitude before. I never done much carpentry or any wiring/plumbing, yet I will be doing this all. What a monumental task. I'm moving at a snail's pace to avoid getting overwhelmed along the way. But, by the Fall of '06, I hope to have my very own JD 2210/2305 and assorted attachments so that I can begin fencing our 7 acres of paradise in preparation for getting a pair of Icelandic ewes. The big goal is to build a herd of sheep to keep the 5 acre pasture under control so I only have to mow the 2 acres of lawn (with limited pasture maintenance). I also want a small pond, a small fruit/nut/berry orchard, and Guinea Fowl at some point. I wish I had gotten started when I was much younger. There's just so much to do... and our daughter's expecting a little girl in November. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

viking65,

Thanks for your help, it was exactly what I was hoping for. I was worried about the Woods PHD 25 dragging, but it sounds like that's not an issue. The Woods 52" tiller also sounds like it would work just fine for me, not that I need that big of a tiller. 48" or 36" would be just fine, but I figured even the bigger Woods tiller (52") is cheaper than the JD 647. I wish I knew how wide the JD 2210/2305 was from the outside of the rear tires. That will decide how wide a tiller I'll get (I just want to make sure the tiller covers the tire tracks). Do you know if there is a significant price differential between the Woods 40" and 52" tillers?

If I recall correctly there was only about $200 or $250 difference between the 40" and the 52" Woods tillers when I was pricing the tillers. You'll like either one. You definately won't have any clearance problems with the Woods PHD 25.

Anjou, just in case you don’t know, many of the smaller tillers come with an offset to cover one of the rear tires. In this way if your tractor is a little short on PTO power, like mine, you can till an area with out leaving tire marks even though the smaller tiller is narrower than the rear of your tractor. Sounds like people are using the 52” successfully on the tractors you are considering so it may not be an issue but you do not have to be restricted to a tiller as wide as the tractor is.
