Here is my 2 ton Aro hoist on the beam that is supported by the two round posts.

I designed and built a gantry crane above a bridge crane that I built into my new shop. For the pivoting lights, I have a power outlet on the crane and a cord that is loosely zip tied to a cable that can side back and forth down to a switch. The bridge was designed for 4,000lbs and the top gantry was designed for 2,000lbs. The lower crane has a manual hoist and the top crane is electric. The gantry crane has a trap door that I can lift things into the loft to work on or store. The bridge rolls 6' wide and 21' long and the gantry has a travel distance of 12' on top of the bridge or can be disassembled to be used in other areas. The gantry is height adjustable as well being able to go from 6' up to 9'.

I also have a crane over my plasma table that I figure can go to at least 1,000 lbs but it's just for lifting plate onto my table or light stuff out of my pickup bed. This crane can travel 10 ft wide by 30 ft long in the shop!

I have a 2 post gantry now. Will be building a shop in a year or 2. Then the 2 post will be inside. After the shop is built, I have a 4 post gantry I'll put outside.

All right, the rollers jammed, because the ordinary 4 wire cable loops, just like it was wound on a roll in the cable factory.

I tried swivel eyes, just plain sliding on the steel wire. It works flawlessly !

So whenever someone wants to make an umbilical cord, either go with expensive sliding door rails, or keep it simple and use large steel rings that dont jam when they twist.

I spent 30 euro for rollers that are useless, but the next guy can use this information to do it right the first time 😉
