How does the 19HP Onan engine compare to the KT17 2 series? Would the Onan easily install in a 782? Any advantages? Rich

It should, you might have to adapt the driveshaft flange to the flywheel, but thats not to hard. Might be come minor wiring differances between the Kohler and the Onan. If you find an Onan from a 982 cub, it would drop right in for sure. You will probably have to do some exhaust mods to put the Kohler muffler on the Onan, unless you put two small mufflers on it like the 982' used. Mike

If your looking for a new engine, look into the Briggs Vanguard in the 18-24hp range or the Honda in the same power range. Yes they are not cheap, but they will give you basicly a new tractor engine wise. While the old engine is out, you can clean everything up, freshen up the paint, make sure the hydro pump is clean and not covered with crud and clean the belly screen if it has one.
