I just use FB to keep up with friends in other states. Don't ask people to do anything. And don't post when away from home, that I am away from home. And especially no FB apps/games.

Don't give Mark Zuckerberg any more power or money! He ain't on yer side! I do have a FB account I use when needed to contact friends. However, Marketplace is a joke of a sales forum. I know craigslist is riddled with keyword abusers, but can still be navigated for what you are looking for.
I use Firefox with it's built-in Facebook Container Tab sandbox to try and tame the data-hungry beast. And after that, I use CCleaner to sanitize the browser and remove all cookies FB has pooped on my machine. So far I'm fairly free from being spammed by FB and its minions.
