Neil,

The lift depends a lot upon your tractor.
I don't know if the TSC is built like a post hole digger (PHD) or not.

If it is built like a PHD then the lift amount is adjustable based upon which pivot hole you choose.

If it is not like a PHD then you have two choices:

1. The lift will be limited to the lift of your 3pt lift if you do not have hydraulic top link.

2. With a hydraulic top link then you get a much increased lifting range. Mine can go from just about touching the ground to about 6' high.

One thing that helps a lot is to have the least amount of slack in your chain before you start to lift. That is why I put so much effort into the tip of my boom, to make very fast hook up with little slack.

Steve,

Great pics, thanks

I like the way you can roll the FEL back and point the pole up so straight. This also increases your lift capacity because the load is closer to the tractor.

Thanks, however I don't as yet have a FEL and am interested in 3Point height capibility. Any issues with sideway torck?

That's a valid concern. You want to keep the load between the lift arms. If you go much higher than a "normal" boom pole it will be harder to keep the load centered and the consequences of shifting the load outside the lift arms (when the uphill arm loading goes from downward to upward) become more severe.

If you just need more lifting range, you can use a hoist on the end of the pole or get/make a pole that works like a post hole digger pole - replacing the top link and providing more lift range at the expense of 3ph lift capacity.

Nope, no torque issues as I built the forks with "blocks" to hold the lower
3pt arms in place (just need to move the forks in one "tooth" on each side. BobG in VA

While your bucket mount is pretty solid and stable, a normal 3ph mount has pin clearances at 3 points on the lift arms that allow slop plus there is a certain amount of sway allowed even with stabilizer bars. If JRP tries to lift something say 10' high or more off the 3-point using a modified boom pole I think there will be a stability problem. Imagine the load tilting to one side until its force is acting outside the narrow triangle formed by the lift arms and the top of the pole. One side will shift from compression to tension while swinging toward the rear tire to the limit of allowable sway as the load shifts in the opposite direction. It might stop there, the pole may fail, or the tractor might roll depending on weights, clearances, strengths, etc.

I wouldn't lift anything of any weight to full height, however, I've lifted some stuff that I estimate over 500 lbs and no torque at all. See attached. BobG in VA

3pt Boom Pole on 3pt Bobtach on, who else, BOB!

I used this setup to plant the poles for my barn. Also to move my BIL's new stainless outdoor cooker that weighed over 1000 pounds.

BobRip,

What do you do with the blade? Prune trees? Demolition? Scare people? :)

I actually use if for trenching for wires, but it fits a 2 inch receiver so I put it on the end of the boom pole and tried to cut a branch. It did not do this well. I really need a saw for that purpose. The power trac can go back and forth very easily, so maybe a saw will work.
