I have a need for a forklift fork arrangement and others probably also do. I'd like to start a thread that has all pictures of loader or forklift fork arrabgements. It would provide a lot of good construction ideas for myself and others.

I bought a used set of forks yesterday; $126 for a pair, 4" wide by 4' long. Forks are easy to find. Because I don't have a loader yet I'll make a set that will fit my future loader, then add pins for 3pt. When finished it will be useable for either.

If you have forks, take a picture and post it. Let's try to have a picture with every post.

This "Build it yourself" is a great forum. Thanks Muhammad.

Here is my second (refined set):

Here is a previous post I wrote that may be helpful with the thought of this post, basically what I have figured out making my 2 sets:

I don't have Deere's forks, but I made my own. They can lift quite a bit. What I have learned: The first set was built out of 42"x4" forks from a fork lift (very heavy, my setup weighed 300#) was able to lift 600 to 700 with only a back blade for counter weight.

42" in front of the loader is a LONG way. Lesson learned! Need smaller forks and less weight.
I found a set of forks in a scrap yard off a hand truck fork lift, like the ones shown in this link:
http://www.wescomfg.com/lift-prod.html
$10 and 5 minutes later, they went home with me. They are 27" long, 3" wide and much, much lighter. I am really happy with this set!!

This is really the way to go. I think these forks are the perfect size for the 4100/410. They are big enough for most tasks. The forks themselves had a 1000# capacity on the hand truck, so strength wise, they are well matched to the capacity of the loader. The fork attachment that deere sells, IIRC, weighs near 500#, and the carriage itself is rated for, I think, 3000#. So you buying a lot of weight for capacity you cannot use with a 4100, I won't even mention the price. The only down side, is that I have not made a backstop/carriage as nice as the deere ones.

I can provide better pictures and details if anyone wants to undertake this project. Its really a simple build if you have the base skills. I welded it, but it could be done with bolting too. Feel free to email me for details!

Craig

Here's the link to a picture of mine, sort of forks, more like material handling tines (4 of them) and a hydraulic grapple thumb. Most of you have already seen this link, but I thought I'd put it in here for someone reading to get ideas all in one place.

Here's a link to the entire thread showing the Base frame, the grapple, the gin pole, and the personnel cage options:

Do clamp-on bucket forks count?

Harv, where'd you get those clamp-on forks? And, what weight are they rated for?

Roy -

Mine are the smallest (32") from Gearmore and I paid $350 for them new. They weigh 90 lbs apiece and have a 1,000 lb capacity.

Gearmore offers the following clamp-on forks:

2" x 3" x 32", weighs 90 lbs, lifts 1,000 lbs.

2" x 3" x 36", weighs 120 lbs, lifts 2,000 lbs.

2" x 4" x 42", weighs 190 lbs, lifts 3,000 lbs.

2" x 4" x 42", weighs 220 lbs, lifts 4,000 lbs.
