I saw a hand written version of this one online, and thought it funny enough that I wanted one of my own. Had the wife make one up professionally.

More of a joke though...kinda....:D

They cited a WRC program where you can have them enforce laws on your land but they require ones name/address/phone number on the signs to be in the program.

I did check the WRC website for sign regulations. I still wonder if that is where I read about contact information. :confused2: I did a bit of searching but I cannot find any mention of having contact info on the signs but I surely read it somewhere. I just wish I could remember the where. :D

I don't leave a phone number. Just the initials of my first name as well as my last name and address. It is a bit iffy if you don't live on the place that is for sure. I have not had problems with the people I have chased off the land. They have all left, sometimes quickly, and never returned.

My wifey's family has a big chunk of farm land with at least a mile of road frontage. They have a problem with trespass but to be honest I think it is buddies of my BIL. They have torn up gates to get into the place.

We are lucky in that my county DOES require written permission of the land owner to be in possession of the hunter. Permission must have been signed off in the last year. I was shocked when I found out the NC does not have a state law on this.

Dan

We use the yellow tyvek posted signs. Just put up a good 12x12 backer board out of plywood (leave the screws stick out a little so as the tree grows over the years the sign won't fall off. Put the posted sign on the backer board first then screw it to the tree. The signs will last a few years before needing a new tyvek posted sign stapled on top of it. Our backer boards last about 10 years and we just go through and resign the signs each year and replace any signs and backer boards that need it.

As for tresspassers, posted signs are a warning. If you catch someone you have to follow through. If you let people trespass still then they will ignore the signs and so will everyone else. You will need to follow through and prosecute anyone who either really makes you mad or comes back after you tossed them off. When people know your serious about the no trespassing then they will respect your property more. Good luck.

Check out VOSS SIGN's web site for a large selection of signs, including many specific to state laws and 'with permission only'. I personally have been using aluminium signs orginally on a homosote backer but have since gone to corrugated plastic made from old realestate signs.

There always seem to be a small percent who think the signs do not apply to them. Enforcement gets their attention.

Missouri also allows the use of purple posting paint. It fades quickly thou and I usually end up re-marking every year. I use paint down my property lines and I have bright yellow no trespassing signs at the gates. It works most of the time, I did get one pic off a deer cam of the back end of a small trailer that had to have been pulled by a ATV.

Once before I got the gates up I had a AWOL soldier show up and actually pitch a tent. The neighbor called the sheriff who showed up, ran the plates, determined who and what he was. The guy was hiding in my woods with his girlfriend and wouldn't come in to calls from the loud speaker on the cop car, repeated blasts of siren, etc. The sheriff finally gave up and left a card on the kids car saying they knew who he was and he better call in. They snuck off after dark and according to the sheriff the kid did call in. He cleaned up his mess so I had no complaints, I figured the poor guy was already in enough trouble.

Here you go, Dougster, and any other Texan with an interest. The specific portion pertaining to the purple paint marks is as follows:

D) the placement of identifying purple paint marks on trees or posts on the property, provided that the marks are:

(i) vertical lines of not less than eight inches in length and not less than one inch in width;

(ii) placed so that the bottom of the mark is not less than three feet from the ground or more than five feet from the ground; and

(iii) placed at locations that are readily visible to any person approaching the property and no more than:

(a) 100 feet apart on forest land; or

(b) 1,000 feet apart on land other than forest land

For the entire statute:
