Potential Newbie owner

I have 32acres, mostly hardwood trees, that are in very overgrown underbrush. I settled on a L3301 with FEL and a 60" Bushhog to get me started.

My planned activities were:
1) Clear a 3 acre overgrown field for a family garden and maybe a food plot
2) Trail creation in the remaining overgrown woods - including logging some for firewood
3) Snow removal on a 400m paved driveway
4) General property upkeep
5) Creation of a small pond (tbd)

The L3301 seemed to fit my activities and budget. With 10hrs on the clock, so far I am not disappointed.

My wife's first comment when it was delivered was "I didn't think we needed such a big tractor." She decided to stay home while I went tractor shopping.

The last tractor I used was a Ford 8N nearly 20 years ago. So I guess by comparison, the L3301 is a big step. Point being, if you're use to modern tractors your perspective may vary.

BCrouse, I have looked at the B3301, the dealer implied I may regret it, not getting a bigger tractor. That is why I focused on a mX4800. Thanks a lot for your input. Jeff9936 you are awesome, may you enjoy every day you get 'seat time' until you reach your goal. Age is just a number.....

Y'all may have wondered how and why I came up with a L6060. I have located a new one with a big discount. Cheaper than a 4760. Maybe a turbo with EGR in addition to DPF takes it away from keeping things simple. But it has HST+.

Im not sure theres a B3301? If there is then yah, might be smaller than you need. The "B" series uses a smaller frame than the "L" series.

HP and weight get work done. The L3301 HST 4WD with FEL is roughly 3800lbs (best I can cal). Im planning on getting the rear tires ballasted. Should have had that done by the dealer before it was delivered. But that'll give me another 500-600lbs in the rear.

The L3301 fits in my garage with the ballast box attached, barely. Which was a nice bonus.





Sounds like you've made up your mind. Only one thing left to do now. =]

Sure is nice when snow plowing,raining,hot and buggy.Liked my open station but got tired of freezing in the winter.I plow about 3 miles of drives and road.I have smacked a couple of lights other than that it's great.
We do have an open station to use in the woods.

I'll chime in again to add that if you are tractoring in heat and bugs, a nice air conditioned cab would surely be appreciated. Cruising thru the woods in what passes for Florida's winter, an open station would be fine. As for the rear remote, that will work just fine with a pair of hydraulic hoses run to the front to operate a grapple. Maybe not as slick as the third function on the joystick, but I have no problems using my RR to control my snow plow's angle. Maybe cheaper to install, and a pair of RR could be useful for top n tilt functions? My Kubotas came with RR, so that's what I know. It works for me.

Tractor cabs are expensive. You can't really add a cab enclosure after purchase, because you also need air conditioning in that glass box.

T-B-N surveys indicate residential use tractors record an average of eighty engine hours per year. Perhaps you will operate one hundred twenty hours per year. Not too difficult to operate in the morning hours only, during the three beastly hot months of the year. That is what I do.

Nine months open station is a delight in Florida.
