Where do I begin.....
Someone who owes me a few bucks wants to satisfy some of the debt with a new Poulan Pro 3416 chain saws. I've got 2 Stihl MS260's that outperform any saw I've ever hd my hands on. However, I'd like to have a second saw with each for those times when I get a bar pinched. He has the original bill of sale, so I know it's not "hot". I was told they sell new fo around $125 (?) Anyhow, what kind of saw is the 3416? Besides CHEAP.

IF you use it now & then . It will be ok. I don't know anything about the mod. you listed. But, I owned 1 of their saws once ( 20'' bar) The chain had very small cutting teeth to be a 20'' ( compaired to my husky) Mine didn't hold up very long.. Like you said Cheap !

I have seen that saw on sale at HD for $99. I bought one after Katrina when no other saw was available but it was the 18" model. I used it for about 8 hours a day for about 3 weeks before it wore out completely then I returned it for a refund.

Now I own a Husky for my main use and a Poulan "Wild Thing" just for my spare in case I need to cut out my good saw from a bind.

You don't need another saw to get a saw out of a bind.
A spare Bar and chain will do it.

That's what I do now. Rather have a second saw handy just in case. Also, this Poulan saw will be more or less "free". Either I take it as partial payment, or I write off ALL of what's owed to me as a bad debt.

I've been using Poulan saws for the past 25 years. Few if any problems encountered, I work the snot out of all of them and treat them like ugly stepchildren. I think Poulan is getting a bad rap on their quality. IMHO best buy for the $.

I had one for a few years to mostly delimb the branches off of the cedar trees that I take out. I might use it one day in two months, but it's a full days work. I also used it to cut some oak logs into beams, which was steady running for hours at a time.

The clutch, drive gears just kept wearing out on me. The engine never gave me any problems, and starting was about average, but the problems that I did have just didn't get better with new parts, so I gave it away and went with Stihl.

*Take the saw then.
Also you can just grab it instead of changing chains and bars if a saw gets stuck.

I would take the saw since you are out anyway. A Poulan saw is not going to be near the saw your 260s are. You are looking at a small pro stihl saw VS. a casual consumer saw.

The Poulan will make a good occasional use saw, just don't expect to make full length cuts with the bar at any speed and don't work them very hard. It will be a good loaner saw. They are designed for the light use homeowner.

Couple a years ago 3 of my neghbors helped me grub up our lot line.
2 of them had Stihl saws and the other had a Poulan.
Took the Poulan a lot longer to cut through 6 to 10 inch trees.
