I laughed the whole time that I read your post.

Man am I glad that my wife is scared of the tractor.

Too bad that she is not scared of anything else. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

He is in his mid 80's and a good man so I told him not to worry about it I would fix it later.

Can't help but hope that I may some day be in my mid 80s and a good man, and have the opportunity to pour water in my own tractor's fuel tank!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My wife is not scared of the Kubota but is very cautious, most of the time. I've taken to calling her Kubota Girl. She did some ornamental pruning with the ROPS. My only comment was "I'm glad you did that, not me cause I woulda heard about it for months". It was a bit chilly for a while after that. She goes out in the wet area to mow paths and I tell her she is going to get stuck. She says she won't because she goes slow and and the tall grass gets laid down by the tires. I've told her that grass does not have much structural value. So far she is right as she hasn't gotten stuck. But I did not know the BX could go that slow.

I think I'm lucky that my wife -doesn't- get on my tractors.. cause she'd be doing about the same thing as your wife.. ( sisters? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

( What excuse can I use for my wife then? She is only 34. She was helping me mow one day. She backs the B-7800 on a hill sideways. I tell her not to back up like that and she states that the ROPS is up and she is wearing her seatbelt. I relay to her that I appreciate her concern for safety but if at all possible I would rather she not roll the tractor just to put those safety items to use. She then proceeds to get really close to a tree, all the while the ROPS is tearing off all branches 8 feet and lower. When I tell her about tearing the branches off the tree, she replies that she will get them. On the next trip around the yard she runs over the branches and tells me she mulched them up.
She has finally gotten the hang of mowing except for the time she got the ROPS caught in the volleyball net. )

Well my wife stays off the tractor but seems every other time touches the riding mower there will be a problem.

I remember my grandmother always had a big garden, and uncle would usuall plow it up if need or she'd break with a hand plow. She did for years after grandpa passed away. I guess when she was in her late 80s the kids all decide she needed to quit having a garden. So time went and came about July 4 and everyone is at grandma's for Sunday dinner. Her kids started asking her, where did you get the home grown tomato, lettuce, etc . Turns out she went out behind the smoke house and did a smaller garden without anyone knowing. After that the kids made sure to help her set a small garden every spring. The last was the spring of 1992 when she was 91. She passed away in Oct 92 shortly agfter her 92 birthday. Wish she still here taking care of her secret hidden garden.

MIL, FIL's, and others. Just a symbol for one's own mistake.
"I've got a friend who wants to know what to do if...."

Come on people just admit their are no FIL's pouring water or gas into the diesel. Its okay to make a mistake without conjouring a story about kin folk and neighbors or wives doing it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

UPDATE:

I put it off as long as I could; my son came home last week and said Grandpa had taken the fuel filter off for me /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.

So I went down to his house and replaced the filter. The battery was dead so I told him to charge it or go get a new one and I would bleed the lines.

Well, My son calls me at work today and said Grandpa has the battery charged and wants me to come down this afternoon and bleed the lines.

So one busted knuckle and 20 min later ( those fittings are tough to get a wrench on) the L185 is running again.

I made a couple of rounds in his garden with the cultivators to make sure all the air was out and noticed him standing there looking like a kid who just got his first bike /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I stopped and asked him if he want to plow the garden...when I left he had a smile on his face and the dirt flying /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Reminds me of the time some young genius was cranking the JD "M" with the hand crank. It hit on the first pull and was in first gear. He wasn't hurt but did rearrange the front grill and the fertilizer hopper in the back of the shed.
