This may seem like a silly question but should be asked. When you hooked splitter up to current remotes, did you have splitter hoses side by side or in vertical 1 up & 1 down under it. Need to be vertical, in line with the valve spool.

I did have them connected vertically as you say.

It would be best if you ran the splitter OUT hose to the tank.

Next best is to tee into a return hose.

I'd do that.

I'm still wondering why the splitter wouldn't work when connected to the remotes with the valve tied open. I haven't used the remotes for anything else yet. I hope there is not a problem with them.

I was looking back at your pictures, the remote valve may be plumbed in backwards is why its not working. On the tractor the port closest to the engine is the pressure side and should be going into the IN port on the valve, the port towards the rear of the tractor is the return side and the OUT hose should be going to it.

If he has identified the OUT hose correctly, it is connected correctly as the hose is going to the port stamped OUT.

I'll double check that next time I am out at the property where the tractor is located.

You have not given any info or pictures on the splitter, what are you connected to, cylinder or valve?

If a valve, is it open or closed center?

I was connected from my rear remote to a the valve on the splitter. I'm not sure how to tell if the valve is open or closed center... I'll take some pictures of the splitter next time I get out there. Probably be Monday.

Branson 4020R

Hydraulic System
Type Position
3 point hitch Category 1
Lift capacity (lbs.) 3,306 (1,500kg)
Pump capacity 13cc / 7cc per rev
Pump flow 8.9 gpm / 4.8 gpm

Install a hyd gage in the IN port of the log splitter valve and if you have pressure, it could be closed center.

If it is open center tractor and open center log splitter, there should be flow, but no pressure at the in port of the log splitter valve.

Open center log splitter valve should have hyd flow all the time.

Closed center valve on a log splitter will have no fluid flowing in the neutral/spring center position.

There is a good reason for not pressurizing the OUT port of a log splitter valve, as the OUT port should have no more than 500 psi pressure, so the OUT hose to tank would be ideal.

Closed center valve on a log splitter will have no fluid flowing in the neutral/spring center position.

Based on this information I would say that the splitter valve is open center since it does have flow when in the neutral position.

Thank you all for talking me through this. Maybe one day I will have a full understanding thanks to all the help here on TBN.
