JD-790
Looking at going down the TNT path on my JD-790. Thanks to the many posts from others who have gone before me, I have a pretty good feel for cylinder sources, valves etc.

But my question is do I have to use the JD 790 power beyond kit as my hydraulic take-off starting point. I can not imagine disconnecting the spool valves especially if I install quick connects on those valve ports. So the PB kit seems a bit clumsy way to pickup hydraulic power for permanently mounted valves. I figure should I want true PB I could select prince valve which has PB port or can be adapted later. My JD dealer doesn't seem too interested in selling anything but the PB kit for $200.00

Anyone added hydraulics without the PB kit or have the shop manual for 790 and/or the PB install instructions?

Thanks for the help
Darrell

I want to add some different cylinders and debated on either pb or another selective valve. I went with pb. I am going to install to open center valves to power various things, but I liked the idea of using the quick disconnects. I want to use one for the top link and the other may be for tilt, log splitter, or something. This is what I tell my wife ultimatly it is for the backhoe.

I went through the same debates two years ago when I was going to ad TNT to my JD790 (couldn't locate the discussions from back that far). Ended up with the Power Beyond Kit because I would like to add a backhoe at some future date and would need the rear quick disconnects. If I recall correctly, the PB attached to the rear of the 3 point lift arms block, and the other to the side of the joystick valves. If you followed the tread of adding shims to increase you pressure, the attachment is below the caps. I debated about cutting and flaring the power beyond line on the joystick valves for adding lines to feed the added valves.

I ended up running lines from the power beyond to a 3 valve block. Put quick disconnects on the valve block to leave my options open for hydraulics to the back or front.

Thanks for the feedback. I have ordered the parts manual and tech manual on CD for better look at whats what. When you add up the bits and pieces the $200 for the PB kit isn't all that bad. Still I have mental hang up feeding permanetly mounted values via quick connect lines. Since you have gone down the TNT path already, which side link cvlinder did you select? I am looking at using a TISCO HSL-2201 which looks like it will fit perfectly given one small bushing for pin size difference in the lower arms.

Thanks
D

I waiting to see how this works out for people
Top and Tilt )</font>

I have not seen any forward progress at that site. Kinda a neat toy but I am yet to see just how useful a toy it would be. But then I am a CUT novice too. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif While the linear displacement sensor would give you feedback on link lengths and/or allow them to be repeatable, when setting up a box blade for example I don't really think in Top link length but in box blade angle(s).

The gadget geek in me has already selected x & y axis inclinometers which could be dropped on attachment via a clamp. Thus, I will get my feedback in deg angle relative or absolute. (a.k.a electronic level) Of course the real control engineer geek says put one on tractor one on attachment and small micro to drive hydraulic control valves...Walla attachment maintains set cutting angle and tilt angle even as tractor travels over bumps etc.
Also provides safe operating tilt alarms, burglar alarm lunch bell and at 20deg F outside I am thinking heated seat too.

---OR---

I could just make multiple passes, adjust links now and then and rack up more seat time /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I apologize for the lack of forward progress, but most of the progress has been offline in preparation for online orders and sales and are unavailable to the public until testing is complete, a very frustrating process considering the security issues that can arise /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. The new pages will be made available to the public when all the little pieces are in place. In the meantime, I will try to put up a few more pics and verbage explaining the proper usage of a top and tilt system, as well as how the TCC's added functionality is used.

As far as the use of a top and tilt system with a box blade, a few searches here on TBN will provide a wealth of info. The box blade is really one the best examples of an implement made dramatically more useful when a top and tilt control is added.

You suggestion of inclinometers mounted on the implement is also of interest. It's nice to see another mind in the same gutter /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Actually, we contacted Rick at R & B Tiltmeters the first week of January about using his product on our quick hitch. This would allow the operator to easily adjust any implement to the desired grade on the fly. You will see Rick's product featured on our site and available for purchase individually as well as integrated into the quick hitch. Of course, both will be demonstrated at the National Farm Machinery show.
