Local car dealer hit hard... dozens of brand new Cats gone... mostly truck/suv with high ground clearance.

Theft is theft but giving a pass on anything under a $1,000 is a primer for more of the same.

Three Strikes very effective and releasing thousands of prisoners on COVID policy saw some back in 24 hours...

Seems like common sense a 5 year old would know.

So, who does this stupid stuff and why? Who lets them get away with stupid decisions?

Are all the folks with common sense hiding under rocks?

There are many reasons and I suppose it reverts back to human nature...

Another way to put it is if you are not able to defend/protect what you have you really have nothing.

If I break something of yours I take care of it...

A few years back I dropped a jar a pickles at the market... put my cart over it and tracked down a clerk... he was grateful to avoid a slip and fall... said it is a real problem...

Had the cashier ring up the one I dropped... she said no one does that... I simply said what’s right is right.

Leaving the manager approached and thanked me... again related to slip and fall.

Maybe Leave it to Beaver or Father Knows Best never really existed but I like to think so...

When my wife and I are out on a drive on a really crummy backroad in Indiana, and all of a sudden you come up on a very short section of good road in front of 1 or 2 houses, then it reverts to crummy road again, we always say "I'll bet the mayor lives there." or "I wonder who lives there?".

Could just be the road was that horrible in front of those houses and they had limited funds to replace more of it, but it's fun to think there may be corruption involved. It's a popular pastime. ;)
I can tell you for a fact who live there, and it isn't the mayor. It is a fellow on the road district. I have a good friend who is a road district commissioner and they are paid NOTHING, and it is a thankless horrible job. They do it to get the roads fixed near their houses. They see this as small payment for all the crap they have to take. They just call up the contractor and say "hey come out and fix this section of road". The county pays, and everyone is happy. Now you know.

When we legalized gambling casinos on boats here - it was sold using “all the taxes go to schools”. When you gamble you are supporting your schools!

Then, every $ of gambling taxes allowed $1 of money previously earmarked to schools to be used elsewhere.

Many years down the road and schools are getting roughly the same $ as before gambling.

Tell the truth but not the whole truth when trying to get approval of things seems to be the way.

Yep, we all in Missouri fell hook, line and sinker for that scam. "do it for the children". No wonder I am such an old curmudgeon. I have been scammed by government programs too many times.

I could understand it if the sewer or water is available, but I would object if you live 10 miles from the closest sewer or public water and are required to pay for it. We live 10 miles from any sewer and do not pay for it. We pay taxes for big schools and we never had any kids go to the schools. We pay taxes for roads. There are some nice roads, but not near my place. The road in front of my place seems to be the worst in my county. Our road hasn't had any real maintenance in 20 years.
You have to call and complain to your county road commissioner. Of course you will have to take a number and wait. As he has thousands of others before you all complaining to him, some on a daily basis (squeaky wheel) . Ideally you and he are good friends.

Had some issues here in city...

I walked the neighborhood every night collecting signatures and got 180 of 185 and then went to open forum at council and presented petition and said about 50 home owners are ready to speak as soon as item is on agenda...

The Mike’s went silent for a huddle... public works director summoned to “Help” me... with in 10 days repairs completed, new paint on crosswalk, etc.

Guess you might say I’m a community organizer and did not even know it...

Have done similar on other issues... nothing like walking the neighborhood with a clipboard and the business card and contact info of the city person in charge.

Another time got no where with city on a Section 8 problem property as city said it was HUD issue...

Took a day off and showed up at Federal Building in SF with suit and tie... that lit a fire at city Housing Authority.

Got to put in the time...

Plus - they are “working from home” these days for everyone’s safety.

Others around here have done that and the county then ground up their chip and seal turning their road into dirt.
