Power reverser trans questions?????

Lookin at some 4x10 and 4x20 series tractors. How exactly does this trans work? Can you have it in gear and reverser in the forward position and hold the tractor in place with the brake or will you need to push the clutch in while stopped. Does it work like a backhoe in that it will not stall the engine while stopped and acts similar to an automatic trans? I am confused. I dont want to be clutching all day just to come to a stop. I know about the hydro tranmissions but i am seeing alot of reversers on the market. Chad

No it doesn't work like a backhoe in that regard, you would stall it. There is no torque converter that would allow you to be stationary and in gear with the clutch engaged. The clutch however, can be operated either with the foot clutch pedal, or the steering column stalk (using your left index finger) which is almost as good as TC drive on a backhoe, but not quite!

What the reverser transmission does allow you to do - is flip the lever to N - and after stopping, you can either flip to F or R - without having to use the clutch.

So, when using the machine as a loader tractor, use N after hitting the pile of material and when the bucket is loaded; flip to R, etc.

Clutchless shifting except when changing gears or ranges.

Just as a reminder that the power reverser and the sync-reverser are a bit different...the sync-reverser (4x00 series Deeres) does require the clutch disengaged when shifting Foward to Reverse and vice-versa.
