( As far as stabilizers go, the "Stabil" gasoline proudct works in both gasoline and diesel.)

I was under the impression that alcohol wasn't recomended as an additive for diesel fuel. Since Stabil is 95% isopropanol I sure wouldn't use it. Here's the MSDS for Stabil.

( Steve is correct though - cetane enhancers should NOT be added to diesel fuel in storage as they increase the degradation of the fuel basestock. Use a biocide or electron quenching agent to help prevent stored fuel from going bad, but don't add a cetane enhancer to it! )

So....If you only burn 1 tank of fuel per year and use Power Service you will have bad fuel in your tractor ???? We use Amoco premium and our large tractor only gets run a few hours per year so we do not use any additives. So the question is: How long can the Power Service be in the tank before the fuel degrades ??? The bottles even talk of fuel stabilization. Premium fuel is sold in fewer stations here each year so I may forced to use lower grade fuels and additives.

I'm still questionable about the cetane enhancer issue, so I just wont refer to it.. But as far as Stabil in a diesel engine, I agree that I dont believe it is the best choice.. Why would you use an alcohol based stabilizer created for gasoline when PS makes a stabilizer specificly for diesel fuel applications and will tell you in writing that it doesnt have alcohol.... Just for info purposes, take a look at their web site and look at the Slime X product.. I didnt pull the MSDS because you need to order it from them, but it is available for those inclined..

Skypup,
I am sure that you know what you are talking, but I still think that you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. I am sure that you are right that it will cause fuel to degrade, but after how long of a time? If what you are saying is correct for short term use as in a year or less, then PS is a worthless product as used by the vast majority of the people that purchase it. Only people that use 5 gallon a week or a month are going to put it in as they use the fuel. That means that every one that uses fuel from a large fuel tank over any time are using bad fuel. If it is that way, PS is worthless as used. That I don't buy.
