Power Service in a Storage Tank

Supposedly Sta-Bil is designed for use in both gas and diesel; however I haven't had time to look into how it works, or the pros and cons of using it. At first glance, Slime-X seems to be only focused on algae cleanup and control. I'm looking for a product that contains an antioxidant, an amine based stabilizer, a chelating agent, and a biocide. I'll let you know when, or if, I find it.

JerryG - with the exception of the biocide PS doesn't claim to prepare fuel for long term storage. I'm sure it's a good product for truckers and farmers (if they add it to the equipment tank) that can suck down a lot of fuel quickly.

Don't add any cetane enhancers to stored diesel fuels, add them when you use the fuel in an engine.

The Slime product from PS or Stabil is what you need for stored diesel fuel. If it removes water, it is going to contain some form of alcohol, there are great many different alcohols, all with varying chemical properties, so thinking that "alcohol" is bad for diesel fuel is not the final answer. Sure, ethyl alcohol (ethanol) and methanol (wood alcohol) and ispropyl alcohol (isopropanol) are all bad for diesel fuel, but there are hundreds of more alcohols (some of which are in diesel fuel) that are not bad....

Of course, it has been scientifically proven now that Shoe Polish has the same number of chemicals in it and may actually be as good or better than PS (but that's another story..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The Sunoco premium in this area has the premium additives put in at the rack so you buy fuel with a product in it. The Amoco is supposed to be refined and stored seperate from other fuels. Some dealers in my area use Power Service when people want premium fuel. I think I will stay clear of additives until some data is furnished by Power Service.

If you are purchasing high quality Amoco Premier or BP Supreme diesel fuels, you don't need any additives for anything except long term storage (biocide, bacteriocide, algacide).

For best fuel storage > 6 months, keep the tank clean, keep it at the same constant temperature year round, and put a dessicant on the breather......
