Power Service in a Storage Tank

/ Power Service in a Storage Tank #131
Pup and Steve have a much firmer grasp on the chemical aspect of it than I do, but I have to lean towards Jerry on this one.. While I do respect their opinion and knowledge of what cetane enhancers can do to diesel fuel over time, I have a problem with anyone storing fuel for longer than 6mo.. I guess there are situations for some of you guys to stockpile fuel for farms and such, but 6mo supply...??... If I was going to store it for such a period of time, I might go a little deeper and find a better choice for a stabilizer than a PS cetane booster for the reasons mentioned.... But if I had it for 7mo with PS in it, I wouldnt loose any sleep over it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif... Like I daid, I dont doubt what these guys are saying, though I relate it to changing your oil at 3000mi vs 6000mi.. The benifits of PS and other fuel system treatments far outweigh the small degredation that they may cause over an extended period of time.. So, I prefer fresh diesel anyhow and am far more concerned about the algae growth and separation ofit over time... Just my opinion, guys...

( Anyone that uses enough diesel to amount to anything isn’t going to put PS in as they use it. They are going to put it in their bulk tank. If it degrades the fuel so bad, it would be causing problems. It is NOT causing problems and never has. And all that is happening here is some people will get scared to use it and that is ridiculous. The degradation is nothing but a mountain out of a molehill, nothing else. That is unless you are keeping your fuel stored for several years.

Okay, so lots of people are doing it so it must be right.

Finally a voice of reason in a sea if misinformation and untruths. Good job. )

Why would I be making this stuff up? It seems there are a lot of people out there using PS thinking it does one thing, when it really does another. But don't take my word for it, read the document from Chevron. I have no desire to spar with anyone over the subject. I've said all I have to say here. Take my advice or leave it, or even better look at the information yourself.

I've used Power Service in the white bottle in all our diesel fuel that is stored for less than six months for the last fifteen years without any problems to date.

But that isn't what the discussion was about, it was about longer term storage...... and I simply pointed out the problems with the cetane enhancer being the first thing to degrade and the fact that each molecule of 2-EHN that decomposes takes out tens and tens of millions of diesel fuel molecules in a cascade chain reaction.

The manufacturer did when they filed the MSDS. Go take a look at it at the link I provided and that you quoted!

Jerry I'm so glad someone finally put it in terms we can all appreciate.

I use PS in the storage tank and will continue to use it.
