I recently purchased an '05 Dodge with a Cummins. Discussions at forums like dieselram.com and TDR contain many recommendations for using Power Service diesel treatment mixed with Marvel Mystery Oil. Most claim smoother running, better mileage (+1-2 mpg) and reduced wear and tear on injectors and fuel pumps. Mix ratios vary per poster, some using 3:1/ PS:MMO, to as much as 1:1.
I tried the 1:1 mix myself (16 oz. of each added to new fillup, 35 gals.) and several miles later noiced a big improvement in smoothness and throttle response. Haven't checked mileage yet. Anyone else know about this combo and what effects it could have on tractor diesels?

Marvel Mystery Oil has been discussed to death here on TBN. Here are the two most recent big ones. The first one has only a few responses while the second one has close to 100. You can do a search for "Marvel Mystery Oil" and get plenty of others. Happy reading.

I would also do the same thing with Power Service. Did one below for ya.

I personally do not use either. No need too if you buy good fuel and with some injectors costing hundreds each (on the powerstroke) I would not want to. Unless you live where it is -25 below F, save your money.

I think you may be using a tab 'much' power service.. I.E. 16oz to 35 g.. etc.. I doubt you get much more 'work' out of it than from using the single or double concentration info ont he back of the bottle.

I use Power Service in my Powerstroke, although I'm supposed to recomend Stanadyne or Motorcraft. I have tried both the recomendations on the bottle. It claims to boost 3pts of cetane with half a bottle and 6pts with a full bottle in my 40gal tank. I noticed a difference in power, noise, idle quality and fuel economy (1.5mpg) on the first tankfull with the half bottle mix. No difference with the full bottle mix. Results will vary depending on the quality of fuel you get in your location. You will not hurt your diesel engine by adding a cetane/lubricity additive, providing it doesnt contain alcohol. I recomed you try it for yourself. It should pay for itself, my buddie even tried the Stanadyne in his '95 supercab 4x4 PS which developed a missfire, it cleared up and he got 22mpg on his last trip, though he didnt get over 65mph. I dont know much about the Marvel Mystery oil claim though.

That is weird since I remember my old Powerstroke (97) and in the manual it clearly stated not to use diesels fuel adds that contained a water demulsifier. Damage to the fuel/water separator will be a result. I know Power service states that it contained a water demulsifier when I tired it back in 1998. I know I did not notice anything even in the winters up here.

I'll have to check into that. I know we discourage alcohol, wich is a demulsifier due to the fact it removes lubricity.I'm sure there are other demulsifiers that do not contain alcohol, but I cannot think of them. As I said, curently it is recomended to use only Stanadyne or Motorcraft brand fuel additives to your Powerstroke. I just happened to have easier access to the Power Services brand recently. Motorcraft is also a recent addition to the recomendations, your dealer may not have it.

It was a long time ago, but I think the only time ford says to use a lube fuel add is when you have new injectors installed.

Many people I work with worked for Stanadyne at one time. The old diesel pumps need the adds, now they do not think so.

Technicaly, it is recomended to add a lube to the fuel with new injectors. With fuel quality such an issue, they have addopted the two I mentioned as a recomended procedure for runs rough or fuel economy issues.
