power steering gone

hello,i have a bx2200,about 400 hrs.over the last couple of weeks,it seems that i dont have ANY power steering.i can turn the steering wheel around left or right several times before the front tires react.iv looked foe a power steering pump to no avail,all fluids are good---whats going on??

Steering power comes from the same hydraulic pump that runs your implements. Usually the culprit is the seals on the steering ram (up front between the wheels). Search around here, some people replace the O-rings themselves.

I am in the process of repairing my L5030 which has the same symptoms. I could get the tractor to turn by continuously spinning the steering wheel. After doing some testing that was suggested on a thread I posted here in the Kubota forum, I determined that the problem was a bad center seal in the steering cylinder. That proved to be the case when I pulled the cylinder and opened it up. I ordered a seal kit and hope to have it all back together in a day or 2. Good luck with your steering problem.

ok..where is the steering cylinder on a bx2200.....what am i lookin for,down on the axle?...THANKS

Sorry if I have caused confusion with my reply. I am not familiar with the bx2200 steering at all and made an assumption based on my own problem with the L5030 which sounds much like the one you are having. If your bx2200 does not have an actual hydraulic cylinder that extends left and right to turn the tractor, then please disregard my post. I looked for pictures of the bx2200 but could not tell from the ones I found if a cylinder was present or not. If it is there it is just a hydraulic cylinder that extends both left and right to turn the front wheels in the direction you want them to go. The cylinder on my L5030 is located between the tie rods which are connected to the cylinder. Your tractor may be entirely different in the way the steering is controlled.

No, you are right Ben, the BX series uses hydraulic cylinders for steering and other people with similar symptoms have reported the cylinder as the culprit. I think there was even a service bulletin on the earlier BX machines addressing a seal issue.

A friend just had the power steering suction hose go on his 5240, caused a leak though so it was pretty evident.

If your BX2200 is like the newer versions, and I think it is, it is located just in front of the front axle, bu underneath the front hitch (so it's protected for the most part).

The steering mechanisms are not so dissimilar after all. The parts diagrams downloaded from Messick's is also where I found the seal kit for my L5030 steering cylinder.
