power steering

Mihindra 6000 is leaking power steering fluid around steering wheel! Has anyone had this problem, and what does it take to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Ted, around the wheel at the top of the steering column or at the shaft in the engine compartment?

Ted,

There is a steering valve under the column......look carefully, you'll probably see it with four hoses going into it....

Not sure of your exact model but these steering valves are common and can be resealed

The steering valve must be spraying directly up the shaft, and at a pretty good clip for it to be leaking at the steering column above the dash.

Thanks, I did pull out gauges and saw no leaks down low, looks like oil is only coming directly under steering wheel.

I would expect you will only see it when it is under pressure as you turn. Can you turn it with the gauges off?

Ted, I think power steering fluid is corrosive so keep a rag handy and clean up well. If it is dot 4 I beleive it is okay, if Dot 3 or older style it is.

Steering systems use hyd oil from the main reservoir......not corrosive

Ted, Steering valve shaft seal is leaking, kit is pretty inexpensive but its quite a job getting the valve out and in. BTW steering should be using ATF dextron fluid.
