Power Trac PT425 2001 Model Year
I would like to ask all of you Power Trac owners if you were able to purchase your Power Tracs for less than the price listed on the price sheet, or if that price is set in stone. The set price seems fair enough, but hey, if I can spend less for the same thing, I will. I'm getting close to purchasing a PT425 and just want to know what to expect. If you don't want to discuss it on line, please e-mail me. Thanks.

I purchase about $15,000 to $20,000 of products every week and have learned to be straight forward. I came right out and asked if there was any room to work with. They said no. I paid listed web price.

Paid what was posted. It didn't bother me too much since I bought a 422 along with 11 attachments and still paid $90 less the the dealer price for a 23 HP Ventrac I was looking at with no attachments (before lengthy negotiations).

Was just reading some old posts in the PT forum and saw that you bought a PT 422 some time ago...I'm thinking about the same model and was wondering if you would let me know how it has held up...I have an apprx same area to mow as you plus other FEL chores on the property...any repairs needed...do you work it HARD? any help you can offer will be appreciated! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We have six PTs and paid prices posted at the time for all units. PTs are so much less expensive than anything in their class I can't understand where others are getting that PTs are more expensive than other eq.
Neither do I understand who has attachments at a better price: example a Dingo 3' trencher is $4100.00 and a PT 3' trencher is only $1650.00 and digs much faster.

Blackwell,

I know where I am getting the idea that PT's are expensive is by comapring them to CUT package deals that are available in our area. Obviously by comparing the amount of work that a machine can do, this may not be an apple to apples comparison, but it is the best I have to go with. So a 43hp 4WD CUT with BB, shredder and loader will cost me $16K. A 1445 with grapple, mower and BB will cost me $25K (>50% more /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ).

Now here is the real question, If a 1430 can do the same amount of work as the 43 HP CUT, then the PT is cheaper. But the 1430 has fewer HP (whatever that means), 1/2 the weight and 1/2 the lift capabilites of the CUT, so I don't know what a apples to apples comparison is because the PT is such a bad apple /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .

What does everyone think???

Thanks

IrTxRx,

It depends on how you are going to use the machine. If you are going to plow some bean fields or mow acres of grass then an ag type tractor is the way to go. In fact I was wandering about in the Chinese tractor site on TBN when I first heard of Power Trac. If you want simplicity of design, low center of gravity, ease of use, incredible maneuverability and American almost handmade quality then the price of the PTs can not be equaled.

IrTxRx,

Well, I've been researching similar issues as you here lately not for myself, but for my mother-in-law. Her 35 yr. old Farmall 140 finally bought the farm, and she was very impressed when she saw my PT 180. They don't do major agricultural work on their 80 acres, other than mowing, and she's decided that a 1430 is perfect for her. So, to help her in her decision, I've been looking at larger tractors than I previously looked at for myself. Again, I think the horsepower comparison doesn't do justice to the power-trac vs. a standard CUT. For example, she wants to be able to lift round bales of hay, and a 1430 can do that with only 30 hp due to it's weight and low center of gravity. A standard CUT capable of lifting round bales is in the 50 hp range, which is significantly more $$. There were several other issues in her decision, such as maneuverability in the woods, few standard implements on hand, etc..., that made the PT 1430 a good choice for her. It should arrive next Tuesday or Wednesday, and I can't wait to play/work with it before I have to return home from vacation. Hope this helps.

Let's try to compare apples to apples if it is possible with a Power Trac and a conventional CUT.

Please tell us where you can get a 45HP CUT with 4WD, HST, FEL arms with 1800lb lift capacity, grapple bucket, 72" flail mower and 72" box blade with teeth for $16,000? And it has to be able to change implements in 30 seconds, literally, because the quick attach system has to be included. And all the female quick attach plates have to be included for the implements. And we have to figure out how to get them all mounted up front where they work so much better. Apples to apples just got a lot harder. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As for the PT1445:
Base price for a 1445 is $18,500.
60" grapple bucket is $2000.
72" flail mower is $3800.
72" box blade with teeth for $770.
I get $25,070.

I'll even give up the front mounting of all implements, but I won't give up a quick attach system. My back would never forgive me. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Your assignment, TBNers, should you choose to accept it, is to outfit a conventional 45HP 4WD HST CUT with the above mentioned implements and see what they cost.
