I will soon be buying a tractor that I want to mount a backhoe on to from time to time. I would like the middle size backhoe (goes to 8' depth). What is the lowest HP rated tractor I should buy to power that hoe. Have been looking at Yanmar 3110-36 HP (gray market-inexpensive) but hard to find. There seems to be many more of the 20 to 30 HP tractors available than anything over 30HP. Can I get away with a tractor in the mid 20's -HP rating???????

It is not the hp, it is the weight. Your tractor only needs
about 15hp to run its hydr pump to 2200 psi and 5GPM.

A hoe that digs 8 ft max, like the
Kelly B751
Woods B-80X
Woods GB 7500
Kioti KB2375
Bush Hog BH750 (NH 757)
Rhino 75
Wallenstein GX700
Bradco 3375
Kubota BL4690
JD 447
Prairie Dog 7.5
etc
.....will weigh in at 950-1200 lb with subframe and bucket.
I think they will work best if your tractor and loader together
weigh over 3000lb. 4000+ lb is even better. I think you may
get away with a 6-ft hoe on a compact tractor using its CAT 1
3-pt hitch, but even the small ones are very powerful and
could damage the tractor. All 3-pt hitch hoe mounts include
a triangulation bracket (see 3RRL's picture) to keep the 3-pt
from lifting during operation.

Here's a couple pictures of the triangulation DKrug is talking about.
This one is of the additional topside connections.

Sorry, Rob, I was referring to your drawing on the ARPS backhoe thread.
All that effort posting nice pix should get credit! How do you post photos
in one's profile?
