preheating glow plugs question

Hello

Just purchased a new TC45A. In the owners manual it says you must preheat the glow plugs but one paragraph down it say you do not have to preheat.

I figure you would need to preheat in the wintertime but what about the summertime? My tractor starts fine in warm weather without preheating but should I preheat the plugs the first startup of the day in summer?

I preheat any diesel first time starting cold. After that, as long as the engine is warm I just turn the key, no preheat.

Doesn't that tractor have an automatic preheat timer switch? My TC33D had one and it went out and the dealer had it in doing a conversion to the hydraulic system, he just ran a toggle switch out beside the steering. I liked the idea so I put a push button on it and ran it through the dash near the key. When it is cold it won't start so I hold the button for about 4 to 5 seconds and she fires right off. After that I don't have to use it anymore the rest of the day if it is a warm day. And in cold weather if you don't let it set to long it will start.
When the engine is warm you don't need the glow plugs anyway. As far as I am concerned it probably saves the glow plugs.

I too pre-heat 1st time out - same in my truck.

But it's a good question....if it's real hot out and the fuel fires easily, would it harm anything to let 'er rip in the summer w/o pre-heating?

I doubt it would matter, but maybe one of the diesel experts would weigh in (hmm, or perhaps I should have done a search 1st - sorry if it's already covered and covered ...)

Some do, some don't. Usually the diesels with a combustion pre-chamber don't start good without the glowplugs. The DI's Direct Injection ones don't really need a glowplug until it is 32F or lower.
