Premium Diesel... ?

Did it cost more? Does it have red dye in it? You don't live in a tourist trap area, one where they have the regular air for the locals and the premium air for the tourists do you? I guess next time you're there you'll have to take a picture so we all can see.

Sarg, you're making me worried now.. lol... I KNOW it say diesel, was a green pump and it said "premium" in small letters near the top. The other side just said diesel. The whole box was green. :)

It will run fine on kerosene which is #1 diesel they have a larger nozzle sometimes which is my suspicion what you got but could be wrong terminology may be different there?

Well, I just called the station and they didn't have a clue, or even know that it was labeled premium. I also verified that no, they don't sell kerosene. :)

So, I just emailed Holiday customer support (tried calling but got voicemail).

I did a search and found an old thread:

Premium diesel in Northern Michigan - TDIClub Forums

Seems premium is actually rare and has a min 47 cetane rating (from what I read in the thread). But, I'm sure that whenever I filled my diesel container before, the nozzel fit right in. And this was was just a hair too big to fit in.

So, I'm probably just being over worried about this, but it's probably good for it since I just did my 50hr service as well... lol.

Kerosene does NOT equal #1 diesel.

Larger nozzle is simply for faster filling of larger trucks.

OP, premium diesel is just a sales "gimmick". I asked my fuel guy about it years ago and it was just a type of treatment they used. Then we where getting "premium" in on road and off road in the summer and winter time.

They have a spout on both sides.. the one was being used so I went to the other side. The first thing I noticed was the nozzel on the end didn't fit in my container so I looked and made sure it was diesel... yep, it was. So I started filling and looked again and saw "premium" on it.

I've never heard of "premium" diesel, but my local station also has two pumps. One nozzle is big...for larger trucks or farm vehicles, I suppose. The other nozzle is standard sized.
I've never noticed if there's a difference in price...guess I'll check that out next time I stop by for fuel.

I love the big nozzle, that way I can empty my checkbook faster so I can get back to work quicker to refill it.

Hummmm.... sounds like a case of buying the sizzle on the same old stake.

Here in West Michigan some BP stations sell regular and premium grades of diesel. I don't know what the difference is. I suspect the premium has an additive in it similar to Power Service or Howes. They charge a few cents more for the premium. The local Meijer stations advertise that their fuel contains additives that clean the fuel system and improve mileage by 5%. I do know that my B3030 runs smoother on fuel I buy at Meijer. When I have used other fuel I can tell a difference. In my truck that has a Cummins diesel it makes no noticable difference. I usually run Meijer fuel in both since it is priced the same as fuel at other stations.

I thought the cetane rating went the opposite of octane? IE lower number=less volitile and higher number faster burn
