Prepping for Argentine Bahia Grass Seed FINALLY

The AB seed you used is likely from the same Hancock harvest I used.

As my soil test indicated my conditions are no better than fair for Argentine Bahia, I blame only myself for the zero (visible) germination I experienced.

I will plant AB again in Spring 2020 with both Sunn Hemp and winter 2019/2020 Oats turned under and proper two-stage N-P-K soil amendment and hope for better success. The 7/10ths acre lot I am planting required considerable soil movement during grading . The former high areas were moved and are pretty much low fertility subsoil.

While my AB results were not what I planned, it was interesting receiving soil test results from IFAS, which I will follow in Spring 2020.

I decided to try Argentine in the spring one more time. I am going to do a winter cover of Rye Grass and cover the seed late October. The soil needs to stop moving which is what I think was the problem with our last round. In theory, if the Rye Grass grows along with the grass and weeds that are there now, the Argentine seed should stay in place until the seed germinate. 6 acres is a large area to control with some areas having ground cover and many just slick dirt. I plan to seed the AB in March or so and hopefully it will be good to go for spring.

I also plan to toss in a cup of Centipede seed to help stabilize the dirt too.

So many challenges with this 6 acres as it has never had grass since it was dense trees. I figure it is worth one more shot.

Good luck with your AB seeding!!!
