Loquat trees, known as Japanese Plum trees in South Louisiana are the most common fruit trees, growing practically everywhere even in the wild. They can proliferate with no maintenance and are hard to kill.
When I start picking them and eating them off the tree it is hard to stop before I devour 40 or 50 of them. :licking:
My mother used to make about 5 gallons of plum preserves from one tree we had when I was young. Of course we probably ate about 5 gallons of them right off the tree also.
Mockingbirds and bluebirds love them and they make great coon bait.
We always ate them whole and spit out the seeds but if you peel them (they peel very easily) and de-seed them, they are the food of the gods. They are also very nutritious.
I think I'll go outside and pick some more right now, yum.
