Moe, I noticed some are pretty tight as well. I did pick up a new right angle adapter for the grease gun though, it slides over the zerk, so that might eliminate the difficulty on all that can be reached from the side.

Morkai I need to get something for that lower zerk on the steering gear. I used my crane to raise my tractor way up and I still fought that **** thing. I just bought a pneumatic grease gun. Craftsman. Best thing since sliced bread..

Yeah, I usually use my FEL to raise the front end some and slide under and get it, but the new adapter I bought would make it easier. I just wish there was some type of quick connect for the different ends.

Really, I tried a couple cheap pneumatic guns that were crap. I guess I need to spend more than $25 and get a good one. How much was the craftsman?

I don't like pressed in fittings and have never bought any new ones, but what I've done in the past was to take a threaded fitting, partially grind the threads off on the bench grinder, then drive it into the empty socket. To drive it in, I put a small socket wrench on it and that's what I hit with the hammer instead of hitting the zerk itself. That worked well for me.

Well, it was no problem to drop the knuckle out of the axle and drill and tap the hole for the threaded zerk. I was going to go ahead and do the other, but I figure no reason to mess with it until it comes out.

The used machine I bought this winter was missing a zerk on one of the caster wheels of the mower. There were no threads but the hole was just the right size for a 1/4-28 zerk. So last night, I took the caster wheel out, threaded the hole and found that the the zerk went too deep and interfered with the bronze sleeve bearing. A minute on the grinder took care of that and it's all ready to go.

Sears had a half price sale not long ago. I payed $29 plus tax..It is very good quality. It's the same one as in their tool catalog.
