Check the pressure gauge every year to ensure pressure is what it's supposed to be. Our's has been 2#'s off, so we just add the 2#'s to be at the correct pressure.

Our county extension office will test the pressure gauges to make sure they are accurate.

I bought a heavy aluminum pressure cooker that has both a gauge and a weight that sets the pressure. The gauge just backs up the weight. If the weight is jiggling you have 5, 10, or 15 pounds or pressure depending on which way the weight is put on the steam vent. I figure this is pretty much idiot proof and unbreakable. Danged cooker was expensive though but I figure I will be leaving it to the kids one day.

I might have the same one Dan weight and dial, its the 930 all aluminum, no gasket just metal on metal seal.

930 or there abouts. Holds four one quart jars and I can't remember how many pints, seven maybe.

I do put a bit of vasaline where the pot and lid fit together. Not sure if it is really needed but the manual said do it, so I do it. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

This pressure cooker was expensive but as long as physics does not change the weight is a pretty fail safe device. I did not trust the other pressure cookers that depended on gauges and other do dads plus they had gaskets that might need to be replaced. This model would last forever as long as it was not dropped and the weight was not lost.
